Eastern University expresses its profound sorrow at the passing of Md. Iftekhar Mahmud, Associate Professor, Faculty of Law, who passed away on Thursday, 30 October 2025, after a prolonged illness caused by brain cancer. Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilayhi Raji’un.
Mr. Md. Iftekhar Mahmud began his teaching career at Eastern University in 2005 and served with dedication and sincerity for nearly two decades. He played significant roles in both academic and administrative capacities, notably serving as the In-Charge of the Center for Social Innovation and Outreach (CSIO) at Eastern University.
He obtained his LL.B (2003) and LL.M (2004) degrees from the University of Rajshahi. His areas of academic interest included Legal Education, Constitutional Law of Bangladesh, Governance, and International Organizational Law.
As an inspiring educator, Mr. Mahmud was deeply respected and admired by his students for his thoughtful teaching and commitment to ethical learning. He also contributed to the field of legal education through several scholarly publications, including:

His Namaz-e-Janaza was held today, Thursday, 30 October 2025, at Masjid ut Taqwa, Dhanmondi.
