২০২৬ সালের জন্য ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটি ফাউন্ডেশন ও বোর্ড অব ট্রাস্টিজের চেয়ারম্যান হিসেবে নির্বাচিত হয়েছেন ব্যারিস্টার সাফায়েত মোহাম্মদ রাজু। আজ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ক্যাম্পাসে অনুষ্ঠিত ফাউন্ডেশন ও বোর্ড অব ট্রাস্টিজের বার্ষিক সাধারণ সভা (এজিএম)-এ সর্বসম্মতিক্রমে তাকে এ দায়িত্ব প্রদান করা হয়। উক্ত সভায় ইউনিভার্সিটি বোর্ডের সদস্য ইঞ্জিনিয়ার খন্দকার মেজবাহ উদ্দিন আহমেদ, জনাব লিয়াকত হোসেইন মোঘল এবং এস. কে. সায়েদুর রহমানকে ২০২৬ সালের জন্য ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটি ফাউন্ডেশনের ভাইস চেয়ারম্যান হিসেবে এবং জনাব ইসমাইল জবিউল্লাহকে ট্রেজারার হিসেবে নির্বাচিত করা হয়। সভায় সভাপতিত্ব করেন সাবেক চেয়ারম্যান মো. মনিরুজ্জামান মোল্লা। এজিএম-এ সাম্প্রতিক বছরগুলোতে ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির উল্লেখযোগ্য অগ্রগতি পর্যালোচনা করা হয় এবং গবেষণা ও উন্নয়নে উৎকর্ষ অর্জনের পাশাপাশি আন্তর্জাতিক মানসম্পন্ন উচ্চশিক্ষা নিশ্চিত করার ওপর গুরুত্বারোপ করা হয়। এ সময় বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ভাইস চ্যান্সেলর প্রফেসর ড. ফরিদ আহমদ সোবহানীসহ বোর্ড অব ট্রাস্টিজের সম্মানিত সদস্যগণ উপস্থিত ছিলেন। ব্যারিস্টার সাফায়েত মোহাম্মদ রাজু বাংলাদেশের একজন খ্যাতনামা আইনজীবী। তিনি বিভিন্ন ব্যবসায়িক ও সামাজিক উদ্যোগে সক্রিয়ভাবে সম্পৃক্ত রয়েছেন। তার নেতৃত্বে ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটি দেশের অন্যতম শীর্ষস্থানীয় বেসরকারি উচ্চশিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠান হিসেবে আরও সুদৃঢ় অবস্থান অর্জন করবে বলে সভায় আশাবাদ ব্যক্ত করা হয়। উল্লেখ্য ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটি স্থায়ী সনদপ্রাপ্ত বাংলাদেশের একটি শীর্ষস্থানীয় বেসরকারি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়, যা উদ্ভাবনী শিক্ষা ও গবেষণার মাধ্যমে মানসম্মত শিক্ষা প্রদান এবং একাডেমিক শ্রেষ্ঠত্ব অর্জনে প্রতিশ্রুতিবদ্ধ।

Eastern University, through its Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), successfully organized two capacity-building sessions on 6 January 2026 at Rezakul Haider Hall. Both sessions were presided over by the Honorable Vice Chancellor of Eastern University, Professor Dr. Farid A. Sobhani. 🔹 Session I (Administrative Development Session): “Strengthening Teamwork for a Positive Workplace Environment” The session was conducted by Ms. Nilufer Ahmed Karim, Free-lance Gender and Management Consultant and Trainer, and Former Faculty Member, Bangladesh Institute of Management (BIM), Ministry of Industries. The discussion highlighted the importance of teamwork, effective communication, and fostering a positive workplace culture. 🔹 Session II (Faculty Development Session): “From Lecturers to Leaders: Faculty as Change Agents” The session was facilitated by Prof. Dr. Syed Saad Andaleeb, Distinguished Professor Emeritus, Pennsylvania State University, USA, and Former Honorable Vice-Chancellor of BRAC University. ঢাকা, ২৯ ডিসেম্বর ২০২৫: ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির ক্যাম্পাসে আজ আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে উদ্বোধন করা হয়েছে বহুল প্রতীক্ষিত উদ্যোক্তা মেলা “ব্যাটল অব ট্রেডার্স– সিজন ৫” এবং উইন্টার ফেস্ট। মেলাটির আয়োজন করেছে ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটি বিজনেস অ্যান্ড সোশ্যাল এন্টারপ্রেনারশিপ ক্লাব (BSEC)। অনুষ্ঠানের উদ্বোধন করেন ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির মাননীয় উপাচার্য প্রফেসর ড. ফরিদ আহমদ সোবহানী। এ সময় বিশেষ অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন যুক্তরাজ্যের অক্সফোর্ড ইউনিভার্সিটির প্রফেসোরিয়াল ফেলো অধ্যাপক হাফিজ টি. এ. খান (Prof. Hafiz T. A. Khan, Professorial Fellow, Oxford University) । এছাড়াও অনুষ্ঠানে উপস্থিত ছিলেন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের রেজিস্ট্রার, ডিনবৃন্দ, বিভিন্ন বিভাগের প্রধানগণ, শিক্ষক, কর্মকর্তা-কর্মচারী এবং বিপুল সংখ্যক শিক্ষার্থী। এই উদ্যোক্তা মেলায় ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির শিক্ষার্থীদের পাশাপাশি অংশগ্রহন করে দেশের অন্যান্য বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় ও কলেজের শিক্ষার্থীরা। নানা ধরনের সৃজনশীল ও উদ্ভাবনী স্টল এর বাহারি পণ্যে সেজেছে মেলাটি। মেলাটি তরুণ উদ্যোক্তাদের ব্যবসায়িক ধারণা বাস্তবায়ন, পণ্য প্রদর্শন ও উদ্যোক্তা সক্ষমতা বিকাশে একটি কার্যকর প্ল্যাটফর্ম হিসেবে কাজ করবে। উদ্বোধনী বক্তব্যে মাননীয় উপাচার্য তরুণদের উদ্যোক্তা মানসিকতা গড়ে তোলার ওপর গুরুত্ব আরোপ করেন এবং এ ধরনের উদ্যোগ শিক্ষার্থীদের বাস্তবমুখী শিক্ষা ও নেতৃত্ব বিকাশে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা রাখবে বলে উল্লেখ করেন। তিন দিনব্যাপী এই আয়োজন ২৯, ৩০ ও ৩১ ডিসেম্বর ২০২৫ পর্যন্ত চলবে। উদ্যোক্তা মেলার পাশাপাশি উইন্টার ফেস্ট উপলক্ষে দর্শনার্থীদের জন্য রয়েছে নানা ধরনের বাহারি পিঠা ও খাবারের স্টল, যা ক্যাম্পাসে উৎসবমুখর পরিবেশ সৃষ্টি করেছে। উক্ত মেলার সার্বিক তত্ত্বাবধায়নে ছিলেন ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির অফিস অব দ্যা স্টুডেন্ট এফেয়ার্স ও প্লেসমেন্ট এর উপপরিচালক কে এম মনিরুল ইসলাম।

CSE department of Eastern University organized a seminar titled “Software Development and Related Issues” on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at the Moot Court of the university. The seminar was arranged by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Eastern University. The Honorable Vice-Chancellor of Eastern University, Prof. Dr. Farid A. Sobhani, attended the program as the Chief Guest. Mr. Afzalur Rahman, Member of the Board of Trustees, Eastern University, was present as the Special Guest. The keynote presentation was delivered by Mr. Abdur Rahman, Software Designer at Nokia, Canada, who participated as the Resource Person. In his speech, he shared practical insights on modern software development practices, industry challenges, and future career opportunities for students in the global technology sector. We are pleased to share that the certificate awarding ceremony of Digital Skills Training for CSE & EEE students, a premier learning opportunity presented by the EDGE Project of the Bangladesh Computer Council and ICT Division through IIT, Jahangirnagar University was held on 21 December 2025 at Rezakul Haider Hall of Eastern University. This ceremony was organized by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of Eastern University. Certificates were awarded to 175 students of CSE and 25 students of EEE for their successful completion of training on Software Testing and Quality Assurance, PHP (Laravel), Graphics Design, Flutter, Python (Django), Java (Spring Boot) and React. The event was graced by Prof. Dr. Farid A. Sobhani, Vice Chancellor of EU as chief guest. Eastern University successfully organized a Microsoft 365 Workshop recently at Rezakul Haider Hall of the university. The workshop was arranged by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) with the aim of empowering students through smart digital productivity tools. The workshop focused on helping students understand modern work trends such as hybrid work, flexible work, and the role of front-line workers, and how Microsoft 365 supports these working models. Participants were introduced to practical uses of Microsoft 365 applications to improve collaboration, communication, and efficiency in both academic and professional environments. The Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and the Department of English, Eastern University, in collaboration with the Eastern University English Club (EUEC), organized an academic session titled “Academic Session: Basics of Academic Research in Language and Literature” under the theme, “From Idea to Presentation: Practical Skills for Academic Research.” The session was held recently at Rezakul Haidar Hall, Eastern University, for the students of the Department of English. The initiative was undertaken as part of the department’s commitment to academic excellence and research development in the field of English language and literature. The session was coordinated by Dr. Md. Ashraf Hossain, Professor, Faculty of Business Administration and Director, IQAC, Eastern University, and Mr. Khaled Mahmud, Lecturer, Department of English. The academic session was aimed at enhancing students’ understanding of fundamental research skills in English language and literature and guiding them through the practical aspects of academic research, from conceptualization to presentation. The resource person of the session was Dr. Shafia Akhter, Associate Professor, Department of English, and Dean of the School of Arts, Eastern University. Dr. Shafia discussed the basics of academic research in English language and literature, including topic selection, formulation of research questions, writing a literature review, applying appropriate methodologies, and practicing effective academic writing within the general structure of a research paper. In addition, she threw light on contemporary perspectives and gave practical guidelines essential for conducting quality academic research in the field of English language and literature. The session was attended by around 65 participants, including both teachers and students from the Department of English. Certificates of participation were distributed among the attendees. Dr. Md. Ashraf Hossain extended his heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Shafia Akhter for conducting such a comprehensive and fruitful session on academic research. He emphasized that her practical guidelines and scholarly perspectives would greatly benefit the students in their academic journey. Dr. Ashraf also expressed his keen interest in further collaboration between the IQAC and the Department of English, highlighting the importance of joint initiatives to strengthen the culture of research and academic excellence at Eastern University. A special segment of the session featured Ms. Irene Siddique Nancy, an alumna of the Department of English, Eastern University, who is currently pursuing a PhD in Education at the Universiti Malaya, Malaysia. She has been serving as a Senior Faculty member in English Language and Literature at Scholastica School for the past fourteen years and is also working as an Adjunct Faculty member at Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology and Presidency University, and formerly at Eastern University. In her speech, Ms. Nancy highlighted the significant contribution of the Department of English, Eastern University to her academic and professional growth. She acknowledged the role of the faculty members in shaping her knowledge and skills, which have inspired her to become an English language educator and deepened her passion for English literature. At the concluding session, Mr. Rofiussan, Chairperson of the Department of English, articulated the department’s vision and initiatives regarding the enhancement of students’ knowledge and skills in academic research in English language and literature. He encouraged students to actively participate in academic contests, conferences, and research-related activities to broaden their academic exposure. A group of students from CSE department, EU visited the renowned Norwegian software company Cefalo Bangladesh Ltd. as part of their educational and industrial exposure program. The visit aimed to provide students with practical insights into the software industry and to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world applications. Upon arrival, the students were warmly welcomed by Saiful Haque Pranta, Executive, HR & Admin. The session began with an introductory presentation about the company’s history, global presence and core areas of work. The speaker explained how the company operates across different countries and collaborates with international clients. The students were then given a guided tour of the office premises. They observed modern workspaces, collaborative environments and advanced technological infrastructure. The tour highlighted the importance of teamwork, innovation and effective communication in a professional setting. An interactive session followed, where Managing Director of the company Ferdous Mahmud Shaon discussed current trends in the software industry. He also explained the skills required to succeed in the field such as programming knowledge, problem-solving abilities, adaptability and continuous learning. Students were encouraged to ask questions making the session engaging and informative. The visit concluded with guidance on career opportunities, internships and the importance of ethics and professionalism in the corporate world. Overall, the visit was highly informative and motivating. Dr. Shafia Akhter is an Associate Professor in the Department of English, School of Arts, Eastern University. In addition, she has served as a part-time faculty member at University of Malaya, Malaysia. Dr. Shafia Akhter holds a PhD in Translation Studies from University of Malaya, Malaysia. Her doctoral research, titled “The Translation of Figurative Language from Bengali into English in Sanchita”, examined key issues in cross-linguistic figurative expression and literary translation. She earned her Bachelor of English with Honours and Master of Arts in English from Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh, and her MESL (Master of English as a Second Language) from University of Malaya, Malaysia. She has published several research articles in peer-reviewed academic journals and has presented papers at international conferences. She also has several translated works to her credit. আজ মহান বিজয় দিবস উপলক্ষে ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির পক্ষ থেকে জাতীয় স্মৃতিসৌধে পুষ্পস্তবক অর্পণের মাধ্যমে মহান মুক্তিযুদ্ধের শহীদদের প্রতি গভীর শ্রদ্ধা নিবেদন করা হয়েছে। সকালে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের শিক্ষক, বিভাগীয় প্রধান এবং বিভিন্ন বিভাগের শিক্ষার্থীদের অংশগ্রহণে এই শ্রদ্ধাঞ্জলি র‍্যালি অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। এ সময় উপস্থিত সবাই শহীদদের আত্মত্যাগ স্মরণ করে এবং বিজয়ের চেতনায় ঐক্যবদ্ধ থাকার অঙ্গীকার ব্যক্ত করে। বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় প্রশাসন জানায়, বিজয় দিবস উপলক্ষে এই কর্মসূচির মূল উদ্দেশ্য নতুন প্রজন্মের মাঝে মুক্তিযুদ্ধের সঠিক ইতিহাস ও শহীদদের ত্যাগ সম্পর্কে সচেতনতা বৃদ্ধি করা। একই সঙ্গে দেশের স্বাধীনতা ও অগ্রগতির ধারাবাহিকতা রক্ষায় সবাইকে দায়িত্বশীল ভূমিকা পালনের আহ্বান জানানো হয়। মুক্তিযুদ্ধের সাহসী যোদ্ধাদের আত্মত্যাগের বিনিময়েই আজকের স্বাধীন বাংলাদেশ। তাঁদের সেই মহান ত্যাগ চিরস্মরণীয় হয়ে থাকবে। তাদের আত্মত্যাগের বিনিময়ে পাওয়া এই দেশকে মুক্তিযুদ্ধের চেতনায় এগিয়ে নিতে ঐক্যবদ্ধভাবে কাজ করতে হবে এই প্রজন্মকে।

A delegation from Eastern University participated in the 7th National HR Convention organised by the Federation of Bangladesh Human Resource Organisations (FBHRO), held on 5 December 2025 at Sheraton Dhaka Hotel. The day-long national event brought together more than a thousand HR professionals, corporate leaders, policymakers, academics, and international experts. The convention was held under the theme “AI and Human Capital: Driving Business Agility and Innovation,” highlighting the growing role of artificial intelligence, human capital development, and strategic HR leadership in shaping future-ready organisations. A special point of pride for Eastern University was the presence and leadership of the Vice President of FBHRO, who is also the Vice Chancellor of Eastern University. His concurrent leadership positions reflect Eastern University’s strong institutional linkage with national HR leadership and its commitment to advancing professional HR practices in Bangladesh. The opening keynote address was delivered by Johnny C. Taylor Jr., President and CEO of SHRM (USA), while the keynote paper was presented by Dr. Musharrof Hossain, President of FBHRO. The closing keynote was delivered by Ed Hansen, Founder and CEO of Executive Leadership Systems (USA). School of Business of Eastern University in collaboration with the EU-IQAC recently organized a successful, informative and hands-on workshop on “E-Return Filing for Individuals: A Step-by-Step Guide” for BBA students on 8th December, 2025 at Rezakul Haider Hall. It was a 2-hours workshop aimed at enhancing students’ practical knowledge on modern tax compliance processes, familiarize them with the online tax return system, improve their digital tax literacy and prepare themselves for real-world professional responsibilities regarding tax return filing. The seminar was led by the distinguished resource person, Md. Mohiman, FCMA, CEO of MM & Co. Cost and Management Accountants. A heartfelt thanks to him for conducting such an engaging and practical session. His expert guidance and clear demonstrations greatly enhanced students’ understanding on how to navigate the National Board of Revenue (NBR) online portal, register for an e-TIN, prepare necessary documents, and complete the electronic tax return submission process. Special appreciation also goes to Prof. Dr. M. Sayedur Rahman, Dean, School of Business, Syed Habib Anwar Pasha, Head, Department of Business Administration, Dr. Md. We are pleased to share that EU Day Out 2025 was held on 11 December 2025 at Shaldah Eco Resort, Gazipur organized by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Eastern University. This event was arranged for the trainees who have awarded certificates of Digital Skills Training for students, a premier learning opportunity presented by the EDGE Project of Bangladesh Computer Council and ICT Division through IIT, Jahangirnagar University. About 150 students from B. Sc. in CSE, LL. B and MBA programs were present in the program. The event was graced by Prof. Dr. Farid A. Sobhani, Vice Chancellor of EU as chief guest and all members of Eastern University Working Committee were also present. The event was filled with fun and excitement through activities such as pillow passing, football, hari vanga, swimming and cultural segment. Professor Dr. Md. Anowar Zahid is a distinguished legal scholar, widely recognized for his contributions to comparative law, international business law, and Islamic law. He holds an LLB (Hons) and an LLM from the University of Dhaka. He earned his PhD from the University of Manchester, UK following an LLM from Dalhousie University, Canada. He currently serves remotely as Vice-President (Conferences & Publications) at the Nature Science Research and Innovation Centre (NSRIC), Toronto, and as Legal Advisor to NSRIC Green Supplies Inc., Toronto. Professor Zahid served as Dean of the School of Law at Eastern University from 2018 to 2023. Prior to joining Eastern University, he was an Associate Professor and the Director of the Centre for International Law and Siyar (CILAS) at the National University of Malaysia (UKM). Earlier, he was an Associate Professor of Law at the University of Dhaka.

On 7 November 2025, a group of 38 students from the BBA Program of the School of Business, Eastern University, undertook their second industrial visit of the Fall 2025 trimester to Youth Spinning Mills as part of their academic learning activities. The visit was coordinated by Ms. Fozia Rahman, Assistant Professor, with the support of Mr. Belayet Hosen and Mr. Rifat Hasan Riyad. The Faculty of Business Administration played a significant role in planning and facilitating this valuable academic initiative. During the visit, students observed various stages of textile production, operational processes, and industry-standard management practices. This hands-on exposure enabled them to connect theoretical knowledge with real-world industrial applications. The School of Business expressed sincere appreciation to the management of Youth Spinning Mills for their cooperation, warm hospitality, and continued support in strengthening student learning. Students from the Prothom Alo Bondhushava Club of Eastern University proudly took part in a special daylong workshop focused on digital fact-checking and online verification, held on 5 December 2025 at the Prothom Alo Office in Karwan Bazar, Dhaka. A total of eleven club members participated in the intensive training titled “Question Everything You See Online: Training on Quick Fact-Checking & Verification.” The program was jointly organized by Bondhushava and Dismislab, with support from Deshi-Foods. Throughout the workshop, participants engaged in a series of insightful sessions designed to strengthen their ability to navigate the digital world responsibly. In the first session, Miraj Ahmed Chowdhury, Managing Director of Digitally Right, discussed the importance of critical thinking in evaluating online content. The second session was led by Touhidul Islam Rasu, Research Officer at Dismislab, who focused on effective information verification methods and source assessment techniques. In the third session, Yaseer Abrar, also a Research Officer at Dismislab, trained participants on detecting misleading photos and videos through reverse search tools, metadata analysis, and practical verification techniques. A special highlight of the event was the presence of renowned writer and Prothom Alo representative Mr. Anisul Haque, who emphasized Prothom Alo’s commitment to promoting responsible information verification among young people. He encouraged participants to stay vigilant about misinformation and introduced the guest trainers who conducted the sessions. The program further covered techniques for identifying AI-generated visuals and texts, as well as methods for using global digital archives to verify old images, videos, and historical content. These sessions provided valuable hands-on experience with modern fact-checking tools and real-time verification practices. By the end of the day, participants gained a strong foundation in fact-checking methodologies, developed faster techniques to validate social media content, and built greater confidence in detecting misinformation. They also received Certificates of Participation and had the opportunity to network with fellow learners and digital literacy enthusiasts, making the workshop highly enriching and impactful.

Eastern University successfully organized an insightful seminar titled “Understanding Earthquake Risk in Bangladesh: Preparedness for the Next Disaster” on 6 December 2025 at Rezakul Haider Hall. The event aimed to raise awareness about Bangladesh’s seismic vulnerability and highlight the importance of preparedness, resilience, and scientific understanding. The seminar was honored by the presence of Professor Md. Shamsul Huda, Treasurer of Eastern University, who attended as the Chief Guest. In his remarks, he praised the Department of Civil Engineering for arranging an event of national relevance and emphasized the importance of integrating disaster preparedness into academic and institutional planning. The keynote presentation was delivered by A.K.M. Sajadur Rahman, Senior Research Engineer at the Housing & Building Research Institute (HBRI). He discussed Bangladesh’s geological risks, regional fault lines, urban vulnerabilities, and practical strategies to reduce earthquake impacts. His presentation highlighted how structural safety, scientific awareness, and proactive planning can significantly minimize future disaster losses. The seminar was also attended by Professor Dr. Md. Mahfuzur Rahman, Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology, as the Special Guest. He appreciated the initiative and encouraged students to deepen their understanding of earthquake-resistant design and emerging engineering solutions. INDCon 2025 has officially announced the results of its competitions, and Eastern University is delighted to celebrate the outstanding achievements of its students. In the Presentation Competition, Eastern University secured 1st Place with the project “IoT-Enabled Maternal & Neonatal Health Monitoring in Remote Areas,” presented by Farhan Ahmed Rahee (EEE), Shariful Islam (EEE), and Turjo Saha (CSE). Dhaka University and JUST achieved 2nd and 3rd places, respectively. In the Project Showcasing Competition, Eastern University earned 3rd Place with the project “Multipurpose Drone,” developed by Md Shamiul Islam, Jahangir Alom, and Labib Sobhani—all from the Department of EEE. BUBT and Daffodil International University secured the top two positions. In the Idea Pitching Competition, the winners were Daffodil International University, UAP, and Varendra University. This year’s INDCon saw strong nationwide participation, with approximately 90 students from around 27 IEEE Student Branches of different universities joining both onsite and online. Eastern University warmly congratulates its winning teams for their creativity and dedication, and appreciates all participants whose efforts enriched INDCon 2025. The university also recognizes the leadership and support of Md. Maidul Islam, Associate Professor and Coordinator of the IEEE EU Student Branch, and Prof. Mahfuzur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering & Technology and Counselor of the IEEE EU Student Branch. INDCon 2025—an international congress featuring competitions, hands-on workshops, expert talks, and panel discussions—was organized by the IEEE Bangladesh Section and jointly co-hosted by the IEEE MIST Student Branch and the IEEE Eastern University Student Branch. This year, IEEE BECITHCON 2025 and INDCon 2025 were held in parallel at Eastern University, creating a vibrant platform for innovation, research, and industrial collaboration. ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটি মসজিদে আইন অনুষদের সদ্য গ্রাজুয়েট শিক্ষার্থী আফনান আলম সাকিবের স্মরণে একটি বিশেষ দোয়া মাহফিল অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। তার অকাল বিদায় বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় পরিবারকে গভীরভাবে মর্মাহত করেছে। শিক্ষক, শিক্ষার্থী ও কর্মকর্তা–কর্মচারীরা একত্র হয়ে তার রুহের মাগফিরাত কামনা করেন এবং শোকাহত পরিবারের প্রতি আন্তরিক সমবেদনা জানান। ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির উদ্যোগে এবং আইন অনুষদের ব্যবস্থাপনায় আয়োজিত এই দোয়া মাহফিলে সবার হৃদয়ে ছিল গভীর বেদনা ও স্মৃতিময় আবেগ। কিছুদিন আগেই আইন বিভাগের প্রিয় শিক্ষক ইফতেখার মাহমুদ আমাদের মাঝ থেকে চলে যান। তার পরপরই একই বিভাগের এক তরুণ শিক্ষার্থীর মৃত্যু আইন অনুষদের সবার শোককে আরও গভীরতর করেছে এবং পুরো বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় পরিবারকে ব্যথিত করেছে। বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের মাননীয় উপাচার্য মহোদয় আফনান আলম সাকিবের বিদেহী আত্মার মাগফিরাত কামনা করেন এবং তার শোকাহত পরিবারের প্রতি গভীর সমবেদনা জানান। তিনি বলেন, একজন তরুণ শিক্ষার্থীর এমনভাবে চলে যাওয়া ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির জন্য অপূরণীয় ক্ষতি, এবং আল্লাহ যেন তাকে জান্নাতুল ফেরদৌস দান করেন। আল্লাহ পাক আফনান আলম সাকিবকে জান্নাতুল ফেরদৌস দান করুন এবং তার পরিবারকে এই শোক সহ্য করার শক্তি দিন।

On 29 November 2025, Eastern University successfully hosted the 4th IEEE Conference on Biomedical Engineering, Computer and Information Technology for Health (BECITHCON) 2025 at its permanent campus. All activities of the first day were conducted according to schedule, and the event remained vibrant and enriching throughout the day with the active participation of researchers, academics, and students from various universities. The inauguration ceremony was graced by Professor Dr. Farid A. Sobhani, Honorable Vice Chancellor of Eastern University, as the Chief Guest. Distinguished Professor Dr. M. M. Shahidul Hasan from the School of Engineering and Technology, Eastern University, addressed the audience as the Guest of Honour. Eminent academicians—Professor Dr. Celia Shahnaz, Professor Dr. Shaikh A. Fattah, and Professor Dr. Muhammad Imamul Hasan Bhuiyan—all from the EEE Department of BUET and holding significant responsibilities within IEEE—were present as Special Guests. The session was chaired by Professor Dr. Md. Mahfuzur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at Eastern University and Chair of the Conference Organizing Committee. The speakers highlighted the future directions of health technology and inspired young researchers toward innovation. Three international keynote speakers delivered their talks virtually at this year’s conference. * Dr. Md. Touhidul Islam, Assistant Professor, Department of Radiation Oncology (Medical Physics), Stanford University, USA, presented the keynote “Next-Generation AI for High-Dimensional Biomedical Data: Towards Interpretable and Data-Efficient Discovery”, shedding light on innovative and interpretable AI techniques for analyzing complex healthcare data. * Dr. Roshan Joy Martis, Associate Professor, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Manipal Institute of Technology, Bengaluru, India, delivered a talk titled “Intelligent Processing of Biomedical Signals: A Technological Perspective”, discussing current applications, challenges, and future opportunities in biomedical signal processing. * Dr. Ashir Ahmed, Associate Professor, Faculty of Information Science and Electrical Engineering, Kyushu University, Japan, spoke on “Digital Transformation for Healthcare Productivity: Lessons from PHC, AI, and Global South Innovation”, sharing real-world insights into digital health services, portable health clinics, and AI-driven triage systems aimed at enhancing healthcare productivity. Throughout the day, parallel sessions featured presentations on biomedical engineering, smart health systems, artificial intelligence in healthcare, medical devices, and emerging technology-driven research. The active involvement of researchers, faculty members, professionals, and students contributed to a highly positive and knowledge-rich environment. Following the inauguration ceremony, Eastern University hosted the co-located activities of the International Industrial Activities Congress (INDCon) 2025. Organized jointly by the IEEE Eastern University Student Branch and the IEEE Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) Student Branch, the program included project showcasing, quiz competitions, idea competitions, and several educational and competitive activities. These activities offered students opportunities to learn, innovate, and participate actively. Approximately 90 students from around 25 universities participated both onsite and online. The first day of the conference concluded with constructive discussions, research presentations, and collaborative exchanges. The event once again reaffirmed Eastern University’s commitment to research advancement, academic excellence, and fostering international collaboration. The second day of IEEE BECITHCON 2025 will be held virtually on 30 November 2025, with additional local and international researchers and experts joining the sessions.

We are pleased to share that the certificate awarding ceremony of Digital Skills Training for students, a premier learning opportunity presented by the EDGE Project of the Bangladesh Computer Council and ICT Division was held on 22 November 2025 at Happy Arcade of Dhanmondi. This ceremony was organized by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of Eastern University. Certificates were presented to 60 students of LL.B, 25 students of LL.M, 29 students of MBA and 11 students of M.A. in English in recognition of their outstanding performance and successful completion of training. The event was graced by Prof. Dr. Farid A. Sobhani, Vice Chancellor of EU as chief guest. In his valuable speech, highlighted to move forward with a spirit of innovation, but also with ethics, empathy and the determination to create a brighter, more inclusive world. Prof. Dr. M. Sayedur Rahman, Dean, Faculty of Business Administration and A.B.M. Imdadul Haque Khan, Dean, Faculty of Law were present as special guests and the ceremony was presided by Syed Habib Anwar Pasha, Head, Department of Business Administration, Eastern University. Four students from the Faculty of Law, Eastern University, recently participated in the Legal Skills Boot Camp 2025, a three-day national residential program organized by the Human Rights Observation Center at Subornogram Resort, Narayanganj. The boot camp brought together 80 aspiring legal professionals from 20 universities across Bangladesh, creating a dynamic platform for participants to learn, link, and lead through intensive sessions on human rights, legal research, and legislative drafting. Representing Eastern University were: * Abu Nasir Al Rakib (4th Semester) * Shajida Islam Maria (4th Semester) * Umme Maria Tiffa (3rd Semester) * N.N. Md. Mujtoba Shamuel Hossain (2nd Semester) Eastern University proudly notes that Abu Nasir Al Rakib received the Best Activity Excellence Award for his outstanding performance during the camp. Participants engaged in a variety of interactive workshops and activities. A highlight of the program was a session titled “An Introduction to Legal Research”, conducted by Dr. Muhammad Eqramul Haque, Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Dhaka. The boot camp provided students with valuable hands-on experience, expert guidance, and a strong networking opportunity—further strengthening their commitment to legal education and human rights advocacy.

The IEEE Eastern University Student Branch proudly celebrated IEEE Day 2025 on 10th November 2025, marking a vibrant day of innovation, inspiration, and collaboration under the global theme “Leveraging Technology for a Better Tomorrow.” The celebration was graced by the Honorable Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Farid A. Sobhani, whose presence added significance to the event. Prof. Dr. Md. Mahfuzur Rahman, Dean, Faculty of Engineering & Technology; Dr. Md. Abdullah Al Humayun, Chairperson, Department of EEE; Prof. Md. Shamsul Huda, Treasurer; and Dr. Abul Basher Khan, Registrar, were also present, encouraging students to continue their innovative journey in alignment with IEEE’s global vision.
