Eastern University organized a seminar titled “Next-Generation Road Transportation and Intelligent Systems Technologies: Towards Research Collaboration, Higher Study, and Career Opportunities in Japan” on August 19, 2026, at it's campus in Ashulia Model Town. Prof. Dr. Farid A. Sobhani, Honorable Vice Chancellor of Eastern University, attended the seminar as the Chief Guest. In his remarks, he emphasized the importance of international academic and research opportunities for students and encouraged them to prepare themselves for higher studies and global careers. Prof. Kou Yamada, Distinguished Faculty Member of the Graduate School of Science and Technology, Gunma University, Japan, attended as the Guest of Honor. He introduced Gunma University and highlighted opportunities for international students, including scholarships, student exchange, language and cultural exchange programmes, training, and master’s and PhD studies. He also noted that Gunma university offers relatively affordable living compared with Tokyo and has convenient access to the capital. He encouraged undergraduate students to prepare early for higher studies in Japan. Dr. Md. Abdus Samad Kamal, Associate Professor of the Graduate School of Science and Technology, Gunma University, delivered the keynote presentation. He discussed major challenges in road transportation, including traffic congestion, fuel consumption, carbon emissions and accidents. He explained how human factors, vehicles and road conditions contribute to accidents and highlighted the role of autonomous driving and intelligent transportation systems in addressing these challenges. He also discussed emerging areas such as connected vehicles, V2X communication, smart mobility, intelligent transportation systems, smart-city transportation, traffic control, cooperative control systems and 5G-based digital transformation. He emphasized the growing demand for skilled professionals in Japan and encouraged students to explore research, higher study and career opportunities in these fields, including collaboration with automotive industries. Prof. Dr. Md. Mahfuzur Rahman, Dean of the School of Engineering, Eastern University, chaired the session. The seminar provided students with practical insights into advanced transportation technologies, research opportunities, scholarships, higher studies and career prospects in Japan. It also strengthened the scope for academic and research collaboration between Eastern University and Japanese institutions. Eastern University organized a motivational workshop on “Accreditation in Higher Education in Bangladesh” on 19 August 2026 at its campus. The program was organized by the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) to create awareness about accreditation and promote a culture of quality and continuous improvement. Prof. Dr. Farid A. Sobhani, Honorable Vice-Chancellor of Eastern University, chaired the program. Prof. Dr. Md. Shah Amran, Full-time Member of the Bangladesh Accreditation Council (BAC), attended as the Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker, while Prof. Nasir Uddin Ahmed, Director (Accreditation), BAC, attended as the Special Guest and Discussant. In his address, Prof. Dr. Farid A. Sobhani said Ashulia is becoming a “higher education city,” with five universities, including Eastern University, located in the area. He said the concentration of universities provides an opportunity to develop Ashulia as an important higher education hub. He also expressed hope that the electricity-related challenges in the area could be addressed through government initiatives. He highlighted the importance of a dedicated IQAC and said Eastern University has separated the IQAC Cell from regular university responsibilities so that it can work with greater focus on quality assurance and accreditation. Prof. Dr. Md. Shah Amran highlighted the importance of accreditation for student and graduate mobility in the global higher education system. He emphasized maintaining required standards, regular engagement with BAC and following the accreditation guidelines. He also stressed the importance of ensuring reasonable and adequate salaries for faculty members so they can meet their regular living needs and maintain financial security. He discussed internal and external quality assurance and the role of accreditation in ensuring quality education. Prof. Nasir Uddin Ahmed explained the requirements and rules for achieving accreditation and said the relevant accreditation guidelines are provided by BAC for reference. He encouraged universities to understand and properly follow the requirements during the accreditation process. Treasurer Prof. Md. Shamsul Huda thanked the guests and participants and spoke about the importance of quality education. He said applying an Outcome-Based Education (OBE) curriculum is beneficial for an institution in ensuring quality and achieving academic goals. Registrar Dr. Abul Basher Khan said quality is closely connected with ethics and morality. He described accreditation as a commitment to quality and continuous improvement and said quality cannot be measured by a single factor. He expressed hope that Eastern University will become a leading university among the universities in the country. Former IQAC Director Dr. Md. Ashraf Hossain, Professor of Business Administration, shared his previous experience of working with IQAC. Prof. Dr. S.M. Shirazi, CEng, the newly appointed Director of IQAC, organized the program, which was coordinated by Associate Professor Md. Maidul Islam, Assistant Director of IQAC. The program was attended by university officials, faculty members and other concerned stakeholders. Following the workshop, a meeting was held between representatives of BAC and the Department of Pharmacy of Eastern University to discuss accreditation-related matters.

Eastern University organized a seminar titled “The Art of Living” on 18 August 2026 at Rezakul Haider Hall. The seminar focused on positive thinking, attitude, human behavior, and the importance of leading a peaceful and meaningful life. Prof. Dr. Syed Mizanur Rahman, Professor of Economics at Daffodil International University, delivered the keynote speech. He highlighted the importance of attitude and natural behavior in shaping our lives. He explained that the art of living is reflected in the way we naturally think, behave, communicate, and respond to people and situations around us. He encouraged students to understand themselves, develop a healthy attitude, and practice positive behavior in their everyday lives. Speaking as the Chief Guest, Prof. Dr. Farid A. Sobhani, Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor of Eastern University said, “Life is all about peace.” He discussed how positive and negative thinking influence our daily lives and emphasized that positive thinking is essential to living a peaceful and fulfilling life. He encouraged students to develop a positive mindset and face different situations with hope, confidence, and a calm mind. Prof. Md. Shamsul Huda, Treasurer of Eastern University, and Prof. Dr. Md. Mahfuzur Rahman, Dean of the School of Engineering, also spoke at the seminar. Dr. Abul Basher Khan, Registrar of Eastern University, was also present. Faculty members, officials, and students from different departments attended the event. The seminar provided students with an opportunity to look beyond academic studies and reflect on the importance of peace, positive thinking, attitude, and human values in building a better and more meaningful life. ‘ক্যাম্পাস টু কর্পোরেট’ প্রতিপাদ্যকে সামনে রেখে ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটিতে অনুষ্ঠিত হয়ে গেল দিনব্যাপী ‘স্কিল অ্যান্ড এমপ্লয়েবিলিটি সামিট ২০২৬’। শনিবার (১৫ আগস্ট) আয়োজিত এ সামিটের মূল লক্ষ্য ছিল শিক্ষার্থীদের প্রাতিষ্ঠানিক শিক্ষা ও কর্পোরেট দুনিয়ার মধ্যকার দূরত্ব কমিয়ে তাদের চাকরির বাজারের জন্য আরও দক্ষ ও প্রস্তুত করে তোলা। সামিটে প্রধান অতিথি হিসেবে অনুপ্রেরণামূলক বক্তৃতা প্রদান করেন ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির ভাইস চ্যান্সেলর প্রফেসর ড. ফরিদ আহমদ সোবহানী। উদ্বোধনী পর্বে স্বাগত বক্তব্য দেন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ব্যবসায় প্রশাসন বিভাগের ডিন প্রফেসর ব্রিগেডিয়ার জেনারেল ড. এ কে এম ইকবাল আজিম ও ট্রেজারার প্রফেসর মো. শামসুল হুদা। সামিটের অন্যতম আকর্ষণ ছিল বিভিন্ন প্রতিষ্ঠানের জব অফার। দেশের বিভিন্ন খ্যাতনামা প্রতিষ্ঠান এতে অংশগ্রহণ করে। শিক্ষার্থীরা সরাসরি প্রতিষ্ঠানগুলোর বুথে গিয়ে তাদের পছন্দের পদ ও সম্ভাব্য কর্মসংস্থানের জন্য সিভি জমা দেওয়ার সুযোগ পান। অংশগ্রহণকারী প্রতিষ্ঠানগুলো পরবর্তীতে জমা পড়া সিভিগুলো যাচাই-বাছাই করে সম্ভাব্য শূন্যপদের জন্য যোগ্য প্রার্থীদের নির্বাচন করবে। সামিটের সার্বিক কার্যক্রম পরিচালনার দায়িত্ব পালন করে খ্যাতনামা চাকরির প্ল্যাটফর্ম স্কিল জবস। শুধু চাকরির সুযোগ নয়, শিক্ষার্থীদের দক্ষতা বৃদ্ধির ওপরও বিশেষ গুরুত্ব দেওয়া হয় সামিটে।দিনব্যাপী বিভিন্ন অধিবেশনে দেশের বিভিন্ন খাতের অভিজ্ঞ কর্পোরেট পেশাজীবীরা অংশ নেন। তাঁরা শিক্ষার্থীদের সিভি লেখার কৌশল, চাকরির সাক্ষাৎকারে নিজেকে উপস্থাপন, কর্মক্ষেত্রে প্রয়োজনীয় দক্ষতা, নেতৃত্ব, দলগত কাজ, ক্যারিয়ার পরিকল্পনা এবং আধুনিক কর্পোরেট পরিবেশের উপযোগী পেশাগত দক্ষতা নিয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ও তথ্যবহুল দিকনির্দেশনা দেন। আলোচনায় শিক্ষার্থীদের ভবিষ্যৎ কর্মজীবনের জন্য প্রস্তুত করা, কর্মক্ষেত্রে প্রয়োজনীয় দক্ষতা অর্জন, ব্যক্তিগত ব্র্যান্ড তৈরি, উদ্ভাবনী চিন্তাভাবনা, প্রবৃদ্ধিমুখী মানসিকতা, আত্মসচেতনতা ও কর্মসংস্থানযোগ্যতা বাড়ানোর মতো গুরুত্বপূর্ণ বিষয় উঠে আসে। এর মাধ্যমে শিক্ষার্থীরা একাডেমিক শিক্ষার পাশাপাশি বাস্তব কর্মক্ষেত্রের চাহিদা ও প্রত্যাশা সম্পর্কে প্রত্যক্ষ ধারণা লাভের সুযোগ পান। সমাপনী পর্বে ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির রেজিস্ট্রার ড. আবুল বাশার খান, এডমিশন বিভাগের পরিচালক (ইনচার্জ) ও সহযোগী অধ্যাপক আবু মো. আবদুল্লাহ এবং বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের স্টুডেন্ট এফেয়ার্স ও প্লেসমেন্ট অফিসের উপপরিচালক কে. এম. মনিরুল ইসলাম বক্তব্য প্রদান করেন। পরে আয়োজক কমিটির পক্ষ থেকে ধন্যবাদ জ্ঞাপন ও অতিথিদের সম্মাননা প্রদানের মাধ্যমে সামিটের সমাপ্তি হয়।

The Department of Pharmacy at Eastern University and Eastern University Pharma Club jointly successfully organized the player auction for its upcoming departmental Football League. The event was graced by the presence of Dr. Firoj Ahmed, Department Advisor, Dr. Abu Bin Ihsan, Chairman of the Department, and other esteemed faculty members, whose encouraging participation added significant enthusiasm among the teams and audience. During the auction, team managers and owners demonstrated strategic judgment to build balanced squads from a pool of talented pharmacy students. The four participating teams—Cephalosporin Squad, Vaccine Battlers, Antidote Avengers, and Azithromycin Royals—engaged in intense bidding rounds to secure key players. The gathering fostered vibrant interaction between students and faculty, emphasizing the department’s dedication to promoting sportsmanship and unity outside the classroom. With the teams now fully assembled, anticipation builds for the official kickoff of the tournament.

Eastern University proudly celebrates the successful participation of its students from the department of computer science and engineering at InnoVenture: Regional Science & Innovation Fest 2026, organized by the Bangladesh Youth Nuclear Congress (BYNC) at American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB), with the support of Russian House Dhaka. The IEEE Computer Society Eastern University Student Branch Chapter proudly served as a Collaboration Partner of the programme, providing an excellent platform for Eastern University students to present their research and engage with the broader science and innovation community. The Department of Business Administration, Eastern University, successfully organized the Intra-Department Football Tournament – Season 2 at the Eastern University playground, bringing together students in an exciting celebration of teamwork, competition, and sportsmanship. Five teams participated in the tournament and demonstrated remarkable enthusiasm, determination, and team spirit throughout the competition. After a highly competitive final match, Invictus United emerged victorious, defeating Black Pearl to claim the championship title. The prize-giving ceremony was graced by Honourable Vice-Chancellor of Eastern University, Professor Dr. Farid A. Sobhani, as the Chief Guest. He handed over the prizes to the champions and runners-up and congratulated all the participating teams for their outstanding performance. Professor Brigadier General Dr. A K M Iqbal Azim, Dean, School of Business, attended the ceremony as the Special Guest. The ceremony was presided over by Habib Anwar Pasha, Head, Department of Business Administration, who appreciated the students’ enthusiasm and highlighted the importance of extracurricular activities in developing leadership, teamwork, discipline, and camaraderie. Special appreciation goes to Md. ৮ আগস্ট ২০২৬ ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটিতে ইলেকট্রিক্যাল অ্যান্ড ইলেকট্রনিক ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং (ইইই) বিভাগের বিএসসি ইন ইইই প্রোগ্রাম ৩য় আইইবি-বিএইটিই (ওয়াশিংটন অ্যাকর্ড-স্বীকৃত) অ্যাক্রেডিটেশন নবায়ন উপলক্ষে দিনব্যাপী উৎসবমুখর আয়োজন করা হয়েছে। বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় ক্যাম্পাসে আয়োজিত এ অনুষ্ঠানে শিক্ষক, শিক্ষার্থী, কর্মকর্তা ও অ্যালামনাইরা অংশগ্রহণ করেন। ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির বিএসসি ইন ইইই প্রোগ্রাম এর আগে ধারাবাহিকভাবে দুইবার ওয়াশিংটন অ্যাকর্ড-স্বীকৃত আইইবি-বিএইটিই অ্যাক্রেডিটেশনের অন্তর্ভুক্ত ছিল। এ বছর তৃতীয়বারের মতো বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ইইই প্রোগ্রামের এই অ্যাক্রেডিটেশন নবায়ন হয়েছে। এর ফলে ২০২৬ সাল থেকে ২০৩২ সাল পর্যন্ত আরও ছয় বছরের জন্য প্রোগ্রামটি এই আন্তর্জাতিক স্বীকৃতির আওতায় থাকবে। বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের প্রকৌশল শিক্ষার মানোন্নয়ন ও আন্তর্জাতিক মান বজায় রাখার ক্ষেত্রে এ অর্জনকে একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ও সম্মানজনক মাইলফলক হিসেবে বিবেচনা করা হচ্ছে। দিনব্যাপী আয়োজনের শুরুতে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় ক্যাম্পাসে একটি বর্ণাঢ্য আনন্দ র‍্যালি অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। ইইই বিভাগের শিক্ষক ও শিক্ষার্থীদের অংশগ্রহণে র‍্যালিটি ক্যাম্পাসের বিভিন্ন সড়ক প্রদক্ষিণ করে। পরে দুপুরে পবিত্র কোরআন তেলাওয়াতের মধ্য দিয়ে মূল অনুষ্ঠান শুরু হয়। অনুষ্ঠানে প্রধান অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন ইউনাইটেড ইন্টারন্যাশনাল ইউনিভার্সিটির এমেরিটাস অধ্যাপক ও সাবেক উপাচার্য এবং পাওয়ার গ্রিড বাংলাদেশ পিএলসির সাবেক চেয়ারম্যান অধ্যাপক ড. এম. রেজওয়ান খান। অনুষ্ঠানে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ বক্তব্য দেন ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির উপাচার্য প্রফেসর ড. ফরিদ আহমদ সোবহানী। অনুষ্ঠানে সভাপতিত্ব করেন ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির প্রকৌশল অনুষদের ডিন অধ্যাপক ড. মো. মাহফুজুর রহমান। অনুষ্ঠান সঞ্চালনা করেন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ইইই বিভাগের বিভাগীয় প্রধান অধ্যাপক ড. মো. আবদুল্লাহ আল হুমায়ুন। অনুষ্ঠানের শুরুতে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ বক্তব্য দেন ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির ট্রেজারার প্রফেসর মো. শামসুল হুদা। তিনি ইইই বিভাগের এই অর্জনের জন্য সংশ্লিষ্ট শিক্ষক, শিক্ষার্থী, অ্যালামনাই ও কর্মকর্তাদের অভিনন্দন জানান। তিনি বলেন, আন্তর্জাতিক স্বীকৃতি অর্জন একটি প্রতিষ্ঠানের একাডেমিক উৎকর্ষ ও গুণগত মানের ধারাবাহিক উন্নয়নের প্রতিফলন। এরপর বক্তব্য দেন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের উপাচার্য প্রফেসর ড. ফরিদ আহমদ সোবহানী। তিনি ইইই বিভাগের তৃতীয়বারের মতো আইইবি-বিএইটিই অ্যাক্রেডিটেশন নবায়নকে ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির জন্য অত্যন্ত গর্বের বিষয় হিসেবে উল্লেখ করেন। তিনি বলেন, এ অর্জন শুধু একটি বিভাগের নয়; বরং বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের শিক্ষক, শিক্ষার্থী, কর্মকর্তা, অ্যালামনাইসহ সংশ্লিষ্ট সকলের সম্মিলিত প্রচেষ্টার ফল। ভবিষ্যতেও আন্তর্জাতিক মানের শিক্ষা ও গবেষণার মাধ্যমে ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটিকে আরও এগিয়ে নেওয়ার প্রত্যয় ব্যক্ত করেন তিনি। প্রধান অতিথির বক্তব্যে অধ্যাপক ড. এম. রেজওয়ান খান ইইই বিভাগের অ্যাক্রেডিটেশন নবায়নের জন্য ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির কর্তৃপক্ষ, শিক্ষক ও শিক্ষার্থীদের অভিনন্দন জানান। তিনি শিক্ষার্থীদের একাডেমিক জ্ঞান অর্জনের পাশাপাশি নৈতিকতা, দক্ষতা, নেতৃত্ব ও দেশপ্রেমের মাধ্যমে নিজেদের ভবিষ্যৎ গড়ে তোলার আহ্বান জানান। তাঁর দিকনির্দেশনামূলক বক্তব্যে শিক্ষার্থীদের ভবিষ্যতের চ্যালেঞ্জ মোকাবিলা করে দক্ষ প্রকৌশলী ও দায়িত্বশীল নাগরিক হিসেবে নিজেদের প্রস্তুত করার ওপর গুরুত্বারোপ করা হয়। প্রধান অতিথির দিকনির্দেশনামূলক বক্তব্যের পর তাঁর বক্তব্য থেকে শিক্ষা নিয়ে সুন্দর ভবিষ্যৎ গড়ার প্রত্যয় ব্যক্ত করে শিক্ষার্থীরা শপথ গ্রহণ করেন। ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির রেজিস্ট্রার ড. আবুল বাশার খান শিক্ষার্থীদের শপথ পাঠ করান। এ সময় শিক্ষার্থীরা হাত উঁচিয়ে শপথে অংশগ্রহণ করেন। অনুষ্ঠানের একপর্যায়ে ইইই বিভাগ ও ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির পক্ষ থেকে প্রধান অতিথি অধ্যাপক ড. এম. রেজওয়ান খানকে সম্মাননা স্মারক প্রদান করা হয়। অনুষ্ঠানের সমাপনী পর্বে প্রধান অতিথি অধ্যাপক ড. এম. রেজওয়ান খান ও ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির উপাচার্য প্রফেসর ড. ফরিদ আহমাদ সোবহানী শিক্ষার্থীদের সঙ্গে নিয়ে কেক কাটেন। এর মধ্য দিয়ে ইইই বিভাগের তৃতীয় আইইবি-বিএইটিই অ্যাক্রেডিটেশন নবায়নের এই বিশেষ অর্জনকে উৎসবমুখর পরিবেশে উদযাপন করা হয়।

শনিবার ৮ আগষ্ট ২০২৬ ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটিতে ‘বাংলাদেশে ইসলামী অর্থায়ন, ব্যাংকিং ও বীমার সম্ভাবনা, চ্যালেঞ্জ ও ভবিষ্যৎ’ শীর্ষক এক সেমিনার অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের মাননীয় ভাইস-চ্যান্সেলর প্রফেসর ড. ফরিদ আহমদ সোবহানীর সভাপতিত্বে অনুষ্ঠিত সেমিনারে দেশের ইসলামী অর্থায়ন, ব্যাংকিং ও বীমা খাতের বর্তমান অবস্থা, সম্ভাবনা, চ্যালেঞ্জ এবং ভবিষ্যৎ করণীয় নিয়ে আলোচনা হয়। অনুষ্ঠানে প্রধান অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন আল-আরাফাহ ইসলামী ব্যাংক পিএলসির পরিচালক ও ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির বোর্ড অব ট্রাস্টিজের সদস্য ইঞ্জিনিয়ার খন্দকার মেসবাহ উদ্দিন আহমেদ। সেমিনারে সম্মানিত অতিথি হিসেবে বক্তব্য দেন যুক্তরাজ্যের ম্যানচেস্টার বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের অর্থনীতি বিভাগের সহযোগী অধ্যাপক ড. এম. ইমরানুল হক। মূল বক্তব্য উপস্থাপন করেন জগন্নাথ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের অর্থনীতি বিভাগের অধ্যাপক ড. তারেক মুহাম্মদ শামসুল আরেফিন। অনুষ্ঠানে স্বাগত বক্তব্য দেন সেমিনারের সঞ্চালক বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের রেজিস্ট্রার ড. আবুল বাশার খান। এছাড়া বক্তব্য দেন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ট্রেজারার প্রফেসর মো. শামসুল হুদা এবং ব্যবসায় প্রশাসন বিভাগের ডিন প্রফেসর ব্রিগেডিয়ার জেনারেল একেএম ইকবাল আজিম। সেমিনারে ইসলামী ব্যাংকিং ও বীমা খাতের বিভিন্ন দিক নিয়ে বক্তব্য দেন এবি ব্যাংক পিএলসির কাকরাইল ইসলামী ব্যাংকিং শাখার সিনিয়র ভাইস প্রেসিডেন্ট ও শাখা ব্যবস্থাপক ফরিদ আহম্মদ ফকির, ট্রাস্ট ব্যাংক পিএলসির মিরপুর ডিওএইচএস শাখার ভাইস প্রেসিডেন্ট ও শাখা ব্যবস্থাপক শাহ আবুল বাশার, ট্রাস্ট ব্যাংক পিএলসির ইসলামী ব্যাংকিং বিভাগের ভাইস প্রেসিডেন্ট ও ব্যবস্থাপক মোহাম্মদ শাহ কামাল, জেনিথ ইসলামী লাইফ ইন্স্যুরেন্স পিএলসির ভাইস প্রেসিডেন্ট ও হেড অব গ্রুপ অ্যান্ড হেলথ ইন্স্যুরেন্স মো. আনোয়ার হোসাইন সরকার, জেনিথ ইসলামী লাইফ ইন্স্যুরেন্স পিএলসির এসইভিপি (এইচআর) ও কোম্পানি সেক্রেটারি আব্দুর রহমান, মানারাত ইন্টারন্যাশনাল ইউনিভার্সিটির অর্থনীতি বিভাগের সহযোগী অধ্যাপক ড. মোহাম্মদ মিজানুর রহমান এবং ইউসিবির আশুলিয়া শাখার এক্সিকিউটিভ অফিসার ও অপারেশন ম্যানেজার মোহাম্মদ ফেরদৌস আহমেদসহ সংশ্লিষ্ট খাতের আরও অনেকে। আলোচনায় বক্তারা বলেন, বাংলাদেশের ইসলামী ব্যাংকিং খাতের অন্যতম বড় চ্যালেঞ্জ হলো দক্ষ ও প্রশিক্ষিত মানবসম্পদের ঘাটতি। ইসলামী ব্যাংকিং ও ইসলামী অর্থায়ন বিষয়ে প্রাতিষ্ঠানিক শিক্ষা ও বিশেষায়িত প্রশিক্ষণ গ্রহণকারী জনবল এখনো তুলনামূলকভাবে কম। ফলে এ খাতে প্রয়োজনীয় দক্ষ ও অভিজ্ঞ পেশাজীবী খুঁজে পাওয়া কঠিন হচ্ছে। বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় পর্যায়ে ইসলামী ব্যাংকিং, ইসলামী অর্থায়ন, শরিয়াহভিত্তিক ব্যাংকিং ও বীমা বিষয়ে শিক্ষা ও গবেষণার সুযোগ সম্প্রসারণের মাধ্যমে এই ঘাটতি পূরণ করা সম্ভব বলে বক্তারা মত দেন। বক্তারা বলেন, ইসলামী ব্যাংকিংয়ের মূল ভিত্তি শরিয়াহ নীতিমালা, নৈতিকতা, সততা ও আমানতদারিতা। তাই এ খাতে শুধু ব্যাংকিং ও আর্থিক জ্ঞানসম্পন্ন জনবল নয়, ইসলামী অর্থব্যবস্থার মূলনীতি ও মূল্যবোধ সম্পর্কে সম্যক জ্ঞানসম্পন্ন পেশাজীবী তৈরি করা জরুরি। ইসলামী ব্যাংকিংয়ের কার্যক্রমে শরিয়াহর নীতিমালা যথাযথভাবে অনুসরণ ও বাস্তবায়নের ওপর বিশেষ গুরুত্বারোপ করা হয়। সেমিনারে ইসলামী ব্যাংকিং খাতে নৈতিক ও দায়িত্বশীল মানবসম্পদ গড়ে তোলার বিষয়টিও গুরুত্ব পায়। বক্তারা বলেন, একজন ব্যাংকারের পেশাগত দক্ষতার পাশাপাশি ব্যক্তিগত সততা, নৈতিকতা ও দায়িত্বশীলতা থাকা অত্যন্ত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। ঋণখেলাপি, মাদকাসক্তি বা অন্যান্য অনৈতিক কর্মকাণ্ডের সঙ্গে সংশ্লিষ্ট ব্যক্তিদের মাধ্যমে একটি নৈতিক ও শরিয়াহভিত্তিক আর্থিক ব্যবস্থা পরিচালনা করা কঠিন। তাই দক্ষতার পাশাপাশি সৎ, নৈতিক ও দায়িত্বশীল পেশাজীবী তৈরির ওপর গুরুত্ব দিতে হবে। আলোচনায় বিশেষভাবে উল্লেখ করা হয়, ইসলামী ব্যাংকিং শুধু মুসলমানদের জন্য কোনো ব্যাংকিং ব্যবস্থা নয়। এর সেবা ও আর্থিক সুবিধা ধর্ম-বর্ণ নির্বিশেষে সব মানুষের জন্য উন্মুক্ত। একজন অমুসলিম গ্রাহকও ইসলামী ব্যাংকের বিভিন্ন সেবা গ্রহণ করতে পারেন। তাই ইসলামী ব্যাংকিংয়ের নৈতিক ও অর্থনৈতিক সুফল বৃহত্তর জনগোষ্ঠীর কাছে পৌঁছে দেওয়ার ওপর বক্তারা গুরুত্বারোপ করেন। বক্তারা আরও বলেন, দেশের অর্থনীতিতে ইসলামী ব্যাংকিং ও ইসলামী অর্থায়নের ভূমিকা আরও বিস্তৃত করার জন্য দক্ষ মানবসম্পদ উন্নয়ন, গবেষণা বৃদ্ধি, শরিয়াহ নীতিমালার যথাযথ প্রয়োগ, সুশাসন, প্রযুক্তির ব্যবহার এবং বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় ও আর্থিক প্রতিষ্ঠানের মধ্যে কার্যকর সহযোগিতা প্রয়োজন। সেমিনারে ইসলামী বীমা বা তাকাফুল খাতের সম্ভাবনা নিয়েও আলোচনা হয়। বাংলাদেশের ক্রমবর্ধমান অর্থনীতি ও পরিবর্তিত আর্থিক চাহিদার সঙ্গে সামঞ্জস্য রেখে ইসলামী অর্থায়ন, ব্যাংকিং ও বীমা খাতে নতুন পণ্য ও সেবা চালুর মাধ্যমে অর্থনৈতিক কর্মকাণ্ডে আরও বেশি মানুষকে সম্পৃক্ত করার সুযোগ রয়েছে বলে বক্তারা মত দেন। সেমিনারে ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির শিক্ষক-শিক্ষার্থী, ব্যাংকিং ও আর্থিক খাতের পেশাজীবী এবং আমন্ত্রিত অতিথিরা অংশগ্রহণ করেন। আলোচনায় বাংলাদেশের ইসলামী অর্থায়ন, ব্যাংকিং ও বীমা খাতের বর্তমান অবস্থা, সম্ভাবনা, চ্যালেঞ্জ এবং ভবিষ্যৎ করণীয় নিয়ে মতবিনিময় করা হয়। জেনিথ ইসলামী লাইফ ইন্স্যুরেন্স পিএলসি এর সহযোগিতায় সেমিনারটির আয়োজন করে ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির ইসলামী অর্থায়ন, ব্যাংকিং ও বীমা কেন্দ্র। অনুষ্ঠানটির সার্বিক তত্ত্বাবধায়নে ছিলো আইএফবিআই এর পরিচালক ও এসোসিয়েট প্রফেসর ড. ফারহানা খান এবং বিজনেস এডমিনিস্ট্রেশন বিভাগের প্রভাষক রিফাত হাসান রিয়াদ।

৩ আগস্ট ২০২৬ ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটিতে ‘ফিরে দেখা জুলাই গণঅভ্যুত্থান’ শীর্ষক এক আলোচনা সভা অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। অনুষ্ঠানে প্রধান অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন ঢাকা-১৯ আসনের মাননীয় সংসদ সদস্য ডা. দেওয়ান মোহাম্মদ সালাউদ্দিন। তিনি জুলাই গণঅভ্যুত্থানে অসামান্য অবদানের জন্য ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটিসহ দেশের সকল বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের শিক্ষার্থী, শিক্ষক এবং সংশ্লিষ্ট সকলকে আন্তরিক ধন্যবাদ জানান। মাননীয় সংসদ সদস্য আশুলিয়ার পাঁচটি বেসরকারি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়কে নিয়ে গঠিত ‘অ্যালায়েন্স অব ইউনিভার্সিটিজ ইন আশুলিয়া’-এর প্রশংসা করেন। এ সময় ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির সম্মানিত উপাচার্য মাননীয় সংসদ সদস্যের কাছে অ্যালায়েন্সের লক্ষ্য, কার্যক্রম এবং ভবিষ্যৎ পরিকল্পনা উপস্থাপন করেন। অ্যালায়েন্সের প্রস্তাবের আলোকে মাননীয় সংসদ সদস্য আশুলিয়া অঞ্চলকে আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে ‘হায়ার এডুকেশন সিটি’ (Higher Education City) হিসেবে ঘোষণা দেন। একই সঙ্গে তিনি এ সিটির পরিকল্পিত উন্নয়ন ও বাস্তবায়নে সরকারের সঙ্গে সমন্বয় করে কাজ করার জন্য বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় প্রশাসনসহ সংশ্লিষ্ট সকলের প্রতি আহ্বান জানান। অনুষ্ঠানে সভাপতিত্ব করেন ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির মাননীয় উপাচার্য প্রফেসর ড. ফরিদ আহমদ সোবহানী। সভাপতির বক্তব্যে তিনি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় শিক্ষার্থীদের জন্য নতুন নতুন কর্মসংস্থানের সুযোগ সৃষ্টির ওপর গুরুত্বারোপ করেন। বিশেষ অতিথি হিসেবে বক্তব্য দেন ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির প্রতিষ্ঠাতা চেয়ারম্যান ও বোর্ড অব ট্রাস্টিজের সদস্য আবুল কাশেম হায়দার। অনুষ্ঠানে স্বাগত বক্তব্য প্রদান করেন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের রেজিস্ট্রার ড. আবুল বাশার খান। এছাড়া বক্তব্য দেন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ট্রেজারার প্রফেসর ড. মো. শামসুল হুদা। অনুষ্ঠানে জুলাই গণঅভ্যুত্থানে অংশগ্রহণকারী শিক্ষার্থীরা তাদের অভিজ্ঞতা ও স্মৃতিচারণ করেন। এছাড়া শহীদ শাকিল পারভেজের পিতা মো. বেলায়েত হোসেন এবং শহীদ শ্রাবণ গাজীর পিতা মো. মান্নান গাজী তাঁদের আবেগঘন অনুভূতি ব্যক্ত করেন। তাদের বক্তব্যে আন্দোলনের সময়কার ত্যাগ, সংগ্রাম ও আত্মদানের নানা দিক উঠে আসে। আলোচনা সভায় বক্তারা জুলাই গণঅভ্যুত্থানে আত্মোৎসর্গকারী শহীদদের গভীর শ্রদ্ধার সঙ্গে স্মরণ করেন এবং আহত ও সংগ্রামীদের সাহসিকতার প্রতি গভীর সম্মান জানান। তারা বলেন, জুলাই গণঅভ্যুত্থান বাংলাদেশের গণতান্ত্রিক ইতিহাসে এক অবিস্মরণীয় অধ্যায়, যা বৈষম্যহীন, ন্যায়ভিত্তিক ও জবাবদিহিমূলক রাষ্ট্র প্রতিষ্ঠার প্রত্যাশাকে আরও সুদৃঢ় করেছে। পাশাপাশি নতুন প্রজন্মের কাছে জুলাই গণঅভ্যুত্থানের ইতিহাস, চেতনা ও মূল্যবোধ যথাযথভাবে তুলে ধরার প্রয়োজনীয়তার ওপরও গুরুত্বারোপ করেন। অনুষ্ঠান শেষে জুলাই গণঅভ্যুত্থানের শহীদদের রুহের মাগফিরাত এবং আহতদের দ্রুত সুস্থতা কামনা করে বিশেষ দোয়া ও মোনাজাত অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। অনুষ্ঠানটি সঞ্চালনা করেন ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির আইন বিভাগের প্রভাষক ওমর ফারুক তামিম। সার্বিক সমন্বয়ে ছিলেন স্টুডেন্ট অ্যাফেয়ার্স অ্যান্ড প্লেসমেন্ট বিভাগের উপ-পরিচালক কে. এম. মনিরুল ইসলাম। সমাপনী বক্তব্য ও ধন্যবাদ জ্ঞাপন করেন প্রকৌশল অনুষদের ডিন প্রফেসর ড. মো. মাহফুজুর রহমান। এ সময় বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের বিভিন্ন অনুষদের ডিন, বিভাগীয় প্রধান, শিক্ষক, কর্মকর্তা-কর্মচারী, শিক্ষার্থী, গণমাধ্যমকর্মী এবং গণ্যমান্য অতিথিবৃন্দ উপস্থিত ছিলেন।

গত ২৩ ও ২৪ জুলাই ২০২৬ -এই দু’টি দিন ছিল ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটি ওয়ার্কিং কমিটির জন্য এক অন্যরকম অনুভূতির সময়। ব্যস্ত দৈনন্দিন জীবন আর কাজের ক্লান্তি ভুলে কমিটির সদস্যরা মেতে উঠেছিলেন হাওরের স্নিগ্ধ রূপ ও আনন্দের উৎসবে। দু'দিনের এই অবিস্মরণীয় সফরে ভ্রমণ ডায়েরিতে যুক্ত হয়েছিল পাকুন্দিয়া, ইটনা, নিকলী, অষ্টগ্রাম এবং মিঠামইনের রূপকথা। ​ ​ভ্রমণের শুরুতেই যুক্ত হয়েছিল এক বিশেষ স্মৃতি। যাত্রাপথেই বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের মাননীয় ভাইস-চ্যান্সেলর প্রফেসর ড. ফরিদ আহমদ সোবহানী স্যারের আন্তরিকতায় মুগ্ধ হই আমরা সবাই। তিনি পুরো দলকে তাঁর নিজ গ্রাম পাকুন্দিয়ায় এক রাজকীয় মধ্যাহ্নভোজে আমন্ত্রণ জানান। তাঁর গ্রামের বাড়ির আতিথেয়তা এবং উষ্ণ অভ্যর্থনা পুরো ভ্রমণের আনন্দকে শুরুতেই কয়েক গুণ বাড়িয়ে দেয়। ​​নিকলী হাওরের কোল ঘেঁষে গড়ে ওঠা রিসোর্টে কেটেছে আমাদের রাতের মুহূর্তগুলো। উম্মুক্ত প্রকৃতির স্নিগ্ধ হাওয়া, বিশাল হাওরের বুকে ট্রলারের দোলুনি, হাওরের তাজা মাছের স্বাদ, আর বেড়িবাঁধ ধরে আনমনে হেঁটে বেড়ানো -সব মিলিয়ে সময় যেন থমকে গিয়েছিল। আড্ডা আর সুরের মূর্ছনায় মেতে উঠেছিল চারপাশ। ​ভ্রমণের সবচেয়ে রোমাঞ্চকর মুহূর্তটি ছিল, যখন সবাই মিলে হাওরের স্বচ্ছ জলে নেমে পড়া। আমাদের মাননীয় ভাইস-চ্যান্সেলর স্যার নিজে পানিতে নেমে সবাইকে আরও আনন্দিত ও উজ্জীবিত করে তোলেন। ​এরপর হাওরের বুক চিরে জেগে থাকা নয়নাভিরাম নিকলী-অষ্টগ্রাম অলওয়েদার রোড ধরে আমাদের যাত্রা এগিয়ে চলে। পথিমধ্যে ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির প্রতিনিধিদের আগমন উপলক্ষ্যে মিঠামইন কলেজে আয়োজন করা হয়েছিল এক প্রাণবন্ত ও মনোজ্ঞ সুরের আসর। ​সম্মানিত উপস্থিতি ও সুনিপুণ আয়োজন ​আনন্দঘন এই ভ্রমণে অন্যান্যদের মধ্যে উপস্থিত থেকে সফরকে উজ্জ্বল করেছিলেন: ​ড. আবুল বাশার খান, রেজিস্ট্রার, ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটি, ​প্রফেসর ড. আবু বিন ইহসান, কনভেনার (ট্যুর কমিটি) ও ডিন, জীবন বিজ্ঞান অনুষদ, ​প্রফেসর ড. মো. আব্দুল্লাহ আল হুমায়ুন, বিভাগীয় প্রধান, ইইই বিভাগ, ​সৈয়দ হাবিব আনোয়ার পাশা, বিভাগীয় প্রধান, বিজনেস অ্যাডমিনিস্ট্রেশন বিভাগ সহ বিভিন্ন বিভাগের শ্রদ্ধেয় শিক্ষক ও কর্মকর্তাবৃন্দ। ​এই দারুণ এবং সফল সফরটির চমৎকার পরিকল্পনা, সমন্বয় ও নিখুঁত বাস্তবায়নের পেছনে মূল কারিগর হিসেবে দায়িত্ব পালন করেছেন ট্যুর কমিটির মেম্বার সেক্রেটারি এবং পাবলিক রিলেশন্স অফিসের প্রধান - সহকারী পরিচালক মোঃ মহিউদ্দীন মজুমদার (আনন্দ)। ​মেঘ আর পানির মধ্যে এই দু’টি দিন ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটি পরিবারের হৃদয়ে এক সুন্দর স্মৃতি হয়ে জমা থাকবে চিরকাল।

Eastern University held its 201st Board of Trustees (BoT) Meeting today on 25 July 2026 in the University’s Conference Room. The meeting was presided over by BoT Chairman Barrister Safayet Mohammad Raju, in the presence of the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Farid A. Sobhani. BoT members present included Mr. Abul Quasem Haider, Prof. Dr. ABM Shahidul Islam, Mr. Anwar Hossain Chowdhury, Mohammad Enayet Ullah, Abul Khair Chowdhury, Ms. Kazi Shamsun Nahar Sheouly (Representative of Mr. M. Shakil Wahed), Engr. Khandaker Mesbah Uddin Ahmed, Liaquat Hossain Moghul, Sk. Sayedur Rahman, Mohammed Ali Azzam, Md. Tanvir Mahmud, Md. Maniruzzaman Molla, Md. Shahriar (Representative of Adzi Trims Ltd.), and Khandaker Sakib Ahmed. From the Eastern University Foundation, Sakhawat Abu Khair Mohammed and Md. Sanirul Islam Molla attended the meeting. Md. Shamsul Huda, Treasurer; Dr. Abul Basher Khan, Registrar, were also present on invitation. The BoT, as the University’s highest governing body, reviewed and approved key academic and administrative matters, including policies, budget, appointments, research, quality assurance, and infrastructure development. The meeting concluded with a strong commitment to advancing academic excellence and the overall institutional growth of Eastern University. After the meeting, a floral reception was accorded to Prof. Dr. ABM Shahidul Islam on his appointment as the Vice-Chancellor of Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU). The Board congratulated him on this prestigious appointment and wished him every success in his new leadership role.

The event was graced by Prof. Dr. Farid A. Sobhani, Vice-Chancellor of Eastern University, as the Chief Guest. Organized by the School of Business, the seminar featured Commodore Jashim Uddin Bhuiyan, ndc, psc (Retd.), renowned history and political analyst, as the keynote speaker. The session was chaired by Professor Brigadier General Dr. A K M Iqbal Azim, ndc, psc, G+ (Retd.), Dean of the School of Business, Eastern University. Shahriar, Member of the Board of Trustees (BoT) and Chairman of the Committee. Prof. Dr. F. A. Sobhani, Vice-Chancellor of the University, along with the Deans of the Faculties, the Registrar, and the Proctor, attended the meeting.
