Eastern University (EU) inaugurated the Eastern University Research Society (EURS), marking a significant difference in advancing research and innovation at the university. The ceremony was graced by Prof. Dr. Farid A. Sobhani, Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor of Eastern University, as Chief Guest, who unveiled the EURS logo. In his address, he highlighted the vital role of research in higher education and described the society as a “new beginning” for fostering innovation, knowledge-sharing, and academic excellence at EU. Special Guests included Dr. Abul Bashar Khan, Registrar, Prof. Dr. M. Sayedur Rahman, Dean, Faculty of Business Administration, and Prof. Dr. Md. Mahfuzur Rahman, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, who encouraged students to actively participate in research activities. As part of the program, Dr. Md. Zahurul Haq, Associate Professor, Department of Law, conducted a keynote workshop on “How to Write a Conference Paper,” designed to guide young researchers in developing strong academic writing skills for national and international platforms. The event was chaired by Dr. Abu Bin Ihsan, Chairperson, Department of Pharmacy, and Chief Coordinator of EURS, who shared the society’s vision and future plans while inviting students and faculty members to contribute to building a robust research culture at EU. The Business & Social Entrepreneurship Club of Eastern University proudly hosted its signature program, “From Campus to Corporate: Club Orientation & Career Seminar.” The event was designed to act as a meaningful bridge between classroom learning and the professional world, equipping students with practical insights into skills, mindset, and career opportunities. Through engaging orientation sessions, thought-provoking discussions, and interactive activities, participants connected with mentors, exchanged ideas, and drew inspiration for both personal and professional growth. We were honored to have the presence of Professor Dr. Farid A. Sobhani, Vice Chancellor of Eastern University, as Chief Guest. The program was further enriched by the esteemed participation of Professor Dr. M. Sayedur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration, Syed Habib Anwar Pasha, Chairperson of the Department of Business Administration, and Associate Professor Farhana Khan, Club Coordinator. A special highlight was welcoming Md. The Department of Pharmacy at Eastern University, in collaboration with the EU Pharma Club, successfully organized the “Fresher’s Reception 2025” for the new students of the Spring and Summer 2025 sessions on Saturday, 2nd August 2025. The day began with a colorful rally and a tree plantation ceremony, promoting unity, responsibility, and environmental awareness among students. The formal session featured speeches from several honorable guests. Mr. Muhammad Mahbubul Haq, Secretary of the Pharmacy Council of Bangladesh, attended as the Guest of Honor, while Prof. Md. Shamsul Huda, Treasurer of Eastern University, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Special guests included Prof. Dr. Firoj Ahmed, Advisor of the Faculty of Life Science, and Dr. Abul Basher Khan, Registrar of Eastern University. Their speeches inspired and encouraged students to uphold the values of education, professionalism, and service to society. The event also included a recitation from religious texts, the Pharmacy Oath Recitation, student speeches, and a prize-giving and crest distribution ceremony. আজ মঙ্গলবার, ২৯ জুলাই ২০২৫, ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটি প্রাঙ্গণে ডেঙ্গু রোগ প্রতিরোধে এক সচেতনতামূলক র‍্যালি ও পরিষ্কার-পরিচ্ছন্নতা অভিযান আয়োজিত হয়। উক্ত র‍্যালি আয়োজনে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের মাননীয় উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক ড. ফরিদ আহমদ সোবহানীর উপস্থিতিতে অংশগ্রহণ করেছিলেন রেজিস্ট্রার ড. আবুল বাশার খান, বিভিন্ন অনুষদের ডিন, বিভাগীয় চেয়ারম্যানগণ, মেডিক্যাল অফিসার, প্রশাসনিক কর্মকর্তা এবং বিপুল সংখ্যক শিক্ষার্থী। শুরুতেই উপাচার্য সবাইকে ডেঙ্গু প্রতিরোধে সচেতন থাকার পরামর্শ দেন এবং ব্যক্তিগত ও পরিবেশগত পরিষ্কার-পরিচ্ছন্নতার উপর গুরুত্বারোপ করেন। বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের মেডিক্যাল অফিসার ডেঙ্গু রোগের লক্ষণ, জটিলতা ও প্রতিরোধমূলক ব্যবস্থা সম্পর্কে উপস্থিত সবাইকে অবহিত করেন। পরবর্তীতে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় ক্যাম্পাসে একটি পরিচ্ছন্নতা অভিযান পরিচালিত হয়, যেখানে শিক্ষার্থী ও কর্মকর্তাবৃন্দ সক্রিয়ভাবে অংশগ্রহণ করেন। উপাচার্য এ কার্যক্রমকে নিয়মিতভাবে পরিচালনার উপর জোর দেন।

The Department of English, in collaboration with the Eastern University English Club, successfully organized a professional grooming session titled “English Graduates in the Corporate World: Scopes & Opportunities” on Tuesday, 15 July 2025. The event took place in the Rezakul Haider Hall, Eastern University. The primary objective of this session was to make the students familiar with diverse career opportunities available to English graduates in the corporate sector. Besides, the program aimed to raise awareness regarding skills, emerging job roles, and effective strategies for professional advancement beyond conventional academic domains. The event was graced by Professor Dr. Farid A. Sobhani, Honorable Vice Chancellor of Eastern University, who attended as the Chief Guest. The session was presided over by Md. Rofiussan, Chairperson of the Department of English. The program was coordinated by Khaled Mahmud and Anjuma Tasnim, both lecturers in the Department of English. The session was hosted by Shafayet Hossain, President of the Eastern University English Club, and Nushrat Jahan Dula, Executive Member of the same club. The session was facilitated by Mr. Abid Uddin Mahmud, CPP, PCI, PSP, Deputy General Manager (Retail Operations & Administration) at United Group. Mr. Mahmud is a dynamic corporate professional with over two decades of experience in operations, administration, and leadership. His career includes key positions in prominent organizations such as United Group, Beximco Communications Ltd., and British American Tobacco. In his opening address, Md. Rofiussan welcomed the distinguished facilitator and expressed deep appreciation for his commitment to supporting the academic and professional development of students. He emphasized the significant career prospects for English graduates in both academic and corporate spheres, and commended the department's alumni who have excelled in various national, international, and government sectors. Mr. Mahmud conducted an engaging and interactive session, during which he stated current professional trends and highlighted how English graduates can align their strengths with emerging career opportunities. Furthermore, he discussed non-STEM career pathways and underlined the importance of a diverse sets of skills including communication, adaptability, leadership, and emotional intelligence for success in the 21st-century workplace. His session was particularly valuable in demonstrating how English graduates can transcend traditional career expectations and thrive in dynamic corporate roles. Chief Guest Professor Dr. Farid A. Professor Dr. Farid A. Sobhani, Vice Chancellor of Eastern University, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The program was presided over by Syed Habib Anwar Pasha, Chairperson of the Faculty of Business Administration. In his welcome speech, Syed Habib Anwar Pasha highlighted the department’s legacy of academic excellence and long-standing commitment to quality education. Faculty members also introduced themselves, fostering early engagement with the freshers. The focus was to help students navigate university systems, covering key functions like course registration, academic tracking, and financial management. গতকাল ২১ জুলাই (সোমবার), 'জুলাই স্মরণে’ ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটিতে শ্রদ্ধা ও গুরুত্বের সঙ্গে জুলাই বিপ্লবের উপর আলোচনা সভা এবং প্রামাণ্যচিত্র প্রদর্শিত হয়। বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের উপাচার্য প্রফেসর ড. ফরিদ আহমদ সোবহানীর সভাপতিত্বে অনুষ্ঠানে প্রধান অতিথি হিসেবে বক্তব্য প্রদান করেন বাংলা একাডেমির সভাপতি অধ্যাপক আবুল কাসেম ফজলুল হক। বিশেষ অতিথি হিসেবে বক্তব্য রাখেন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের প্রতিষ্ঠাতা চেয়ারম্যান আবুল কাশেম হায়দার। এছাড়াও বক্তব্য দিয়েছেন ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির ট্রেজারার প্রফেসর মো. সামসুল হুদা, রেজিস্ট্রার ড. আবুল বাশার খান প্রমুখ। বক্তাগন জুলাই বিপ্লবের লক্ষ্যকে কাজে লাগিয়ে একটি বৈষম্যহীন ও দুর্নীতিমুক্ত সমাজ গড়ার উপর গুরুত্বরোপ করেন। অনুষ্ঠানে বক্তারা শহীদ আবু সাঈদ, শহীদ মুগ্ধসহ অন্যান্য শহীদদের আত্মত্যাগ, পঙ্গুত্ব বরন করা সংগ্রামীদের সাহসিকতা, এবং এ আন্দোলনে ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটিসহ সকল শিক্ষার্থীদের অগ্রণী ভূমিকার কথা গভীর শ্রদ্ধার সঙ্গে স্মরণ করেন। এতে শহীদদের আত্মার মাগফেরাত কামনা করা হয়। আলোচনায় উঠে আসে আন্দোলনের প্রেক্ষাপট, তাৎপর্য এবং এর অনন্য শিক্ষা। অনুষ্ঠানের সঞ্চালনা করেছেন অনুষ্ঠান বাস্তবায়ন কমিটির আহ্বায়ক ও ব্যবসায় প্রশাসন বিভাগের চেয়ারপারসন এসোসিয়েট প্রফেসর সৈয়দ হাবিব আনোয়ার পাশা। স্মৃতিচারন করেন সে সময়কার আন্দোলনে জড়িত ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির শিক্ষক ও বিভিন্ন বিভাগের শিক্ষার্থীগণ। অনুষ্ঠানটির সার্বিক তত্ত্বাবধানে ছিলেন ক্যারিয়ার সার্ভিসেস এবং স্টুডেন্ট এফেয়ার্স এর ডেপুটি ডিরেক্টর জনাব কে এম মনিরুল ইসলাম। অনুষ্ঠানে উপস্থিত ছিলেন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের বিভিন্ন অনুষদের ডিন, চেয়ারপারসন, শিক্ষকবৃন্দ, কর্মকর্তা-কর্মচারী ও বিভিন্ন অনুষদের শিক্ষার্থীবৃন্দ।

Today, Saturday, July 26, 2025, the Freshers’ Reception for the Summer 2025 students was successfully held on the campus of Eastern University. The event was organized to warmly welcome the newly admitted students and was presided over by the Honorable Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Dr. Farid A. Sobhani. The Chief Guest of the program was Mr. Niaz Rahim, Group Managing Director of Rahimafrooz Bangladesh Ltd. The event was also graced by the presence of the Guest of Honor, Mr. Md. Maniruzzaman Molla, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Eastern University. Engineer Khondker Mezbah Uddin Ahmed, Former Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Eastern University, delivered a speech as a special guest. The ceremony began with a welcome speech by the university’s Registrar, Dr. Abul Basher Khan. Other notable speakers included Professor Md. Shamsul Huda, Treasurer; Professor Dr. M. Sayedur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration; Professor Dr. Md. Mahfuzur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology; Professor Dr. Firoj Ahmed, Advisor to the Faculty of Life Science; Mr. A.B.M. Imdadul Haque Khan, Dean of the Faculty of Law; and Mr. Rofiussan, Chairperson of the Department of English. Understanding that effective legal education goes beyond textbooks, EUMCS offers its members hands-on experience through simulated court proceedings that closely replicate real-world judicial environments. Our society actively participates in renowned national and international moot court competitions, providing students with invaluable opportunities to engage with diverse legal issues, sharpen their oral and written advocacy skills, and develop a global perspective on law. These competitions challenge members to think critically, conduct in-depth research, and present compelling legal arguments, preparing them for the demands of the legal profession. Beyond competitions, EUMCS organizes regular workshops, training sessions, and mentorship programs aimed at cultivating professionalism, ethical awareness, and intellectual growth. The Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) Department of Eastern University hosted a splendid 'Orientation Program' on 07 July 2025 at the Rezakul Haider Hall, EU for students enrolled in the Summer 2025 semester. The program was a blend of formal welcomes and interactive sessions of academic an administrative rules aimed at integrating the newcomers into the vibrant CSE community. Prof. Dr. Farid A. Sobhani, Honorable Vice Chancellor of Eastern University was present as the chief guest, Professor Dr. Md. Mahfuzur Rahman, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology was the special guest and the Chairperson of CSE, Muhammad Mahfuz Hasan, was the session chair of this program. At the beginning of the program, as a Chairperson of the Department, Muhammad Mahfuz Hasan, heartily welcomed all admitted students of Summer 2025 and introduced the well acclaimed faculty members of the Department of CSE. Followed by the introduction of CSE, class routine, academic and examination rules was illustrated by the Chairperson of CSE department. The Chief Guest, Prof. Dr. Farid A. Sobhani, delivered an inspiring speech, emphasizing the importance of academic excellence, personal growth and community involvement. He encouraged students to take full advantage of the resources available at the university and to actively participate in campus life. At the end of the program the executive committee of Eastern University Computing Club (EUCC) was introduced to the admitted students of Summer 2025. An MoA was signed on 1st July 2025, between Eastern University and the Daffodil Response Center (DRC) at the Eastern University campus, Ashulia Model Town, Dhaka. The agreement aims to strengthen capacity building and institutional branding of Eastern University. Professor Dr. Farid A. Sobhani, Vice Chancellor of Eastern University, and Dr. Mohammad Nuruzzaman, Chief Executive Officer of the Daffodil Family, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective institutions. This collaboration seeks to enhance institutional capacity through professional engagement and the development of advanced skills among relevant officials. It is expected to contribute to improved enrollment quality, greater empowerment, and stronger collaboration between the two institutions. This milestone agreement marks the beginning of a long-term, impactful partnership that is expected to yield mutual benefits and sustainable success. The signing ceremony was attended by the Registrar, Deans of various faculties, Departmental Chairpersons, section heads of administrative units, and senior officials from DRC.

A seminar titled "Prospects of Higher Studies and International Work Permit Visa in Japan" held on 30th June 2025 at University's Rezakul Haider Hall, Ashulia Model Town, Dhaka. The Chief Guest at the event was Professor Dr. Farid A. Sobhani, Vice Chancellor of Eastern University. The Special guests were Mr. Morisu Narita, CEO of Winkle Inc. (Japan), and Mr. Md. Rafiqul Islam, Managing Director of Samaira Group and MP Travels Ltd. The seminar was chaired by Professor Dr. Md. Mahfuzur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at Eastern University. Professor Dr. M. Sayedur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration, was also present as a respected guest. Other speakers at the event included Associate Professor Syed Habib Anwar Pasha, Chairperson of the Department of Business Administration, and Ms. Rakhi Roy, Coordinator at Samaira Group. The overall coordination of the event was managed by Mr. K. M. Monirul Islam, Deputy Director of Career Services and International Office and Office of the Student Affairs at the university. At this event, university graduate students Umme Sumaiya Hossain and Ratna Akter Badhon shared their experiences after completing their internships in Japan. They recently returned to the country after finishing their internships in Tokyo, Japan. They encouraged everyone to pursue higher education opportunities in Japan. The speakers shared important information about studying in Japan, how to get a student or work visa, and job opportunities in Japanese companies. The seminar helped students learn about real steps to build a career abroad, especially in Japan. One great example of success is Md. Mansurul Haque Rashed, a recent graduate from the Department of Business Administration. He got a full-time job at Mon Napoleon Co. Ltd. in Japan after completing a competitive internship program. This was possible through the university’s collaboration with Samaira Group and Othelo Financial Institution, Japan. This success was made possible by the leadership of Prof. Dr. Md. Mahfuzur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at Eastern University. This seminar showed Eastern University’s strong dedication to helping students build international careers. Many graduates from Eastern University are now studying and working in Japan, making the university proud.

২০২৫ সালের এশিয়া কাপ ইন্টারন্যাশনাল ল’ মুট কোর্ট প্রতিযোগিতার চূড়ান্ত মৌখিক পর্বে অংশগ্রহণের জন্য বাংলাদেশ থেকে অংশগ্রহণকারী দলগুলোর মধ্যে সেরা দল হিসেবে নির্বাচিত হয়েছে ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির মুট কোর্ট টিম। জাপানিজ সোসাইটি অব ইন্টারন্যাশনাল ল’ এবং জাপান সরকারের পররাষ্ট্র বিষয়ক মন্ত্রণালয় আয়োজিত এই মর্যাদাপূর্ণ প্রতিযোগিতাটি আগামী ৫–৬ আগস্ট ২০২৫, জাপানের টোকিও শহরে অনুষ্ঠিত হবে। গতকাল ২৫ জুন (বুধবার), বিজয়ী দলের সদস্যদের অভ্যর্থনা জানান ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির ট্রাস্টি বোর্ডের চেয়ারম্যান মোঃ মনিরুজ্জামান মোল্লা। এ সময় উপস্থিত ছিলেন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের উপাচার্য প্রফেসর ড. ফরিদ আহমদ সোবহানী, রেজিস্ট্রার ড. আবুল বাশার, আইন বিভাগের ডিন এবিএম ইমদাদুল হক খান, প্রমুখ। বিজয়ী দলের সদস্যরা হলেন আইন বিভাগের শিক্ষার্থী সাকিব খোন্দকার, জোনায়েদ আল রাতুল রাসেল ও মেহনাজ রহমান। দলটির কোচ ছিলেন আইন বিভাগের শিক্ষক মুহাঃ ওমর ফারুক। প্রতিযোগীতার আন্তর্জাতিক পর্বে অংশগ্রহণের জন্যে ইচ্ছুক এশিয়ার বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়গুলো প্রাথমিকভাবে মেমোরিয়াল (লিখিত সাবমিশন) রাউন্ডে লড়াইয়ে অবতীর্ণ হয়; সেখান থেকে এশিয়ার মনোনীত ১৪টি দেশের প্রতিটি থেকে মাত্র ১টি করে এবং জাপান থেকে ২টি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় মৌখিক রাউন্ডের জন্যে উন্নীত হয়। এবারের আসরে, এশিয়ার বিভিন্ন দেশ থেকে অংশগ্রহণকারী ৭৩টি প্রতিযোগী বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের মাঝে নির্বাচিত মাত্র ১৬টি দলের মধ্যে স্থান করে নিয়েছে ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটি মুট কোর্ট সোসাইটির (EUMCS) দলটি। এই দলটি শুধু ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটিকেই প্রতিনিধিত্ব করছে না, বরং ¬—আন্তর্জাতিক আইন শিক্ষার এশিয়ার সেরা প্ল্যাটফর্ম হিসেবে বিবেচিত এই আয়োজনে, বাংলাদেশকে প্রতিনিধিত্ব করছে দলটি। এই অসাধারণ অর্জন ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির শিক্ষার্থীদের নিষ্ঠা, মেধা ও কঠোর পরিশ্রমের পাশাপাশি, মানসম্পন্ন আইন শিক্ষা এবং আন্তর্জাতিক শিক্ষাঙ্গনে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ক্রমবর্ধমান অগ্রগতির দৃঢ় উপস্থাপন। এশিয়া কাপ ইন্টারন্যাশনাল ল’ মুট কোর্ট কম্পিটিশন ১৯৯৯ সালে টোকিওতে শুরু হয়, যার উদ্যোক্তা ছিলেন টোকিও বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের অধ্যাপক সুতসুই ওয়াকামিজু। প্রথমে “জাপান কাপ” নামে পরিচিত এই প্রতিযোগিতা এখন এশিয়ার ভবিষ্যৎ আইনজীবীদের মধ্যে সাংস্কৃতিক বিনিময় ও বন্ধুত্ব গড়ে তোলার জন্য সেরা প্লাটফর্ম হিসেবে বহুল প্রশংসিত। ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির আইন অনুষদ এবং এর মুট কোর্ট সোসাইটি আন্তরিক কৃতজ্ঞতা প্রকাশ করছে সংশ্লিষ্ট সকলকে, যাদের সহায়তায় অর্জন সম্ভব হয়েছে এই অসাধারণ সাফল্যের।

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Eastern University (EU) and the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB). The signing ceremony was held on 24th June 2025 at the Conference Hall of Eastern University, Dhaka. The MoU was signed by Professor Dr. Farid A. Sobhani, Vice Chancellor on behalf of Eastern University, and Mr. Md. Kausar Alam, Vice President on behalf of ICMAB. The presence at the MoU signing ceremony included the university’s Deans, Registrar, Chairpersons of departments, and Heads of various administrative sections. Notable attendees were Professor Dr. M. Sayedur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration; Professor Dr. Md. Abbas Ali Khan, Distinguished Professor; Professor Dr. Mahfuzur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology; Dr. Abul Bashar Khan, Registrar; Professor Dr. Abdullah Al-Humayn, Chairperson of the Department of EEE; Professor Ashraf Hossain, Director of IQAC; Dr. Abdur Rahman, Director of IFBI; Syed Habib Anwar Pasha, Chairperson of the Department of Business Administration and Mr. Md. Abdul Maleque, Additional Director and Head of Education Department, ICMAB along with other representatives and officials from both institutions. Under this MoU, the students and graduates of the BBA and MBA programs of Eastern University will be eligible for exemptions up-to six courses at ICMAB. Moreover, based on their academic results at the university, they will receive special scholarships upon admission to the CMA qualification program. Eastern University and ICMAB will also be able to undertake joint academic initiatives, which will be mutually beneficial for both institutions.

Eastern University proudly announces that its moot court team has reached another major milestone, being selected as the sole team from Bangladesh to qualify for the Oral Rounds of the Asia Cup International Law Moot Court Competition 2025. This prestigious event is scheduled take place on August 5–6, 2025, in Tokyo, Japan. The Eastern University Moot Court Society (EUMCS) team has been distinguished as one of only 16 teams from across the continent to advance to the final oral phase of this highly competitive International Law moot court competition. This achievement highlights not only the students’ hard work and talent but also the university’s dedication to quality legal education and its growing presence in international academic circles. The triumphant team from the Eastern University Moot Court Society (EUMCS) consists of Md. Sakib Khondoker, Jonayed Al Ratul Rasel and Mehanaj Rahaman. Their rigorous preparation, sharp legal analysis, and compelling written memorials set them apart in a field of numerous universities vying for a spot in the final rounds. The Asia Cup is one of the most respected moot court competitions in International Law. It began in 1999 in Tokyo, initiated by Professor Tsutsui Wakamizu of the University of Tokyo. Originally known as the "Japan Cup," the competition has grown into a platform for the brightest legal minds from across Asia. It is celebrated not only for its academic excellence but also for encouraging cultural exchange and building friendships among future legal professionals from the continent. This success would not have been possible without the tireless support and guidance of the team’s coaches, faculty members, and fellow students. From helping the team navigate complex international legal issues to offering constant moral and academic support, their contribution played a vital role in this journey. The Department of English, Eastern University organized a colorful event marking the inauguration of the wall magazine, Think, and Shakespeare Fest-2025 on Monday, May 20, 2025. Professor Md. Shamsul Huda, Vice Chancellor (Acting) of Eastern University, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Md. Rofiussan, Assistant Professor and Chairperson of the Department of English, presided over the ceremony. The program commenced with the inauguration of the wall magazine, Think, a regular platform of the department that brings to light the creative writings such as poems, short stories, and essays of both students and faculty members of the Department of English, Eastern University. The whole process of bringing out the wall magazine was directly supervised by Humaira Shegufta Chowdhury, Senior Lecturer, Department of English. The inauguration ceremony was followed by Shakespeare Fest 2025, an event organized to commemorate the birth anniversary of William Shakespeare, legendary English poet and playwright. In his welcome speech, the chairperson of the Department of English, Md. Rofiussan, pointed out the importance of Shakespeare’s contributions to English language and literature calling upon the students to explore his works more intimately. After that a series of engaging contests centering on Shakespeare’s life and works swept off the audience. One of the highlights was the skit competition, where students put on both solo and group performances from different Shakespearean plays like The Merchant of Venice and Macbeth. These performances brought the Bard’s works to life. Additionally, under the supervision of Khaled Mahmud, Lecturer, Department of English, first-semester students arranged a poster presentation displaying their illustrations of various themes from Shakespeare’s plays and sonnets. The event also featured a poetry competition, where students recited different Shakespearean sonnets. An instant quiz on Shakespeare’s life and works took place to test the participating students’ knowledge in a playful manner. Later on, Professor Shamsul Huda, honorable Vice Chancellor (Acting) of EU gave away the Prizes to the winners of the competitions recognizing their brilliance and creativity. The whole ceremony was conducted by Kazi Tahmina, Assistant Professor, Department of English. In the concluding speech, Professor Shamsul Huda, honorable Vice Chancellor (Acting), praised the students highly for their mesmerizing performances and appreciated the faculty members for their collaborative efforts in organizing this successful program. He emphasized the importance of such initiatives in promoting a love for literature and critical thinking among students of the Department of English. Shakespeare Fest-2025 has, undoubtedly, left a lasting impression on all attendees inspiring a renewed appreciation for art and literature.

Eastern University is pleased to announce the appointment of Prof. Dr. Farid A. Sobhani as its new Vice-Chancellor, effective May 24, 2025. His appointment was made by the Chancellor of the University and Hon’ble President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. Prior to this role, Prof. Dr. Sobhani served as Professor at the School of Business and Economics and Director of the Center for International Affairs and Cooperation (CIAC) at United International University (UIU). He also held the positions of Professor and Dean at the Human Resource Development Institute (HRDI) of Daffodil International University, and Professor and Dean at the Faculty of Business Studies, International Islamic University Chittagong (IIUC). Additionally, he served as Director of the MBA Program at the School of Business and Economics, UIU. Prof. Sobhani currently serves as a Visiting Professor at Sol Plaatje University, South Africa; and a Research Fellow at the Australian Academy of Business Leadership in Sydney. He also serves as the President of the Bangladesh Society for Private University Academics (BSPUA) and Vice-President of the Federation of Bangladesh Human Resource Organizations (FBHRO). He served as a Visiting Professor at the Accounting Research Institute (ARI) of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Malaysia. He has also served as an External Member of the Curriculum Committee at Rajshahi University and the PhD Program Committee at the Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP). Furthermore, he held the position of Editor of the Australian Journal of Accounting, Economics, and Finance, published from Sydney. An accomplished academic, Dr. Sobhani holds a BBA and MBA in Accounting from the University of Chittagong, a second Master’s in Project Management from the University of Antwerp, Belgium, and a PhD from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). He has published nearly 100 research articles in national and international journals covering accounting, corporate disclosure, human resource management, and leadership. A native of Pakundia Upazila, Kishoreganj, Dr. Sobhani’s appointment was celebrated in a reception ceremony held at the University Conference Room. The event was graced by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Md. Moniruzzaman Molla; Former Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Md. Shamsul Huda; the Treasurer, Deans, Chairpersons, Advisors, Registrar, and other senior officials. Enhancing Digital Government and Economy (EDGE) Project Digital Skills Training to Students Organizer: IIT, Jahangirnagar University Venue: Dept of CSE, Eastern University We are thrilled to share that the orientation of Digital Skills Training for students, a premier learning opportunity presented by the EDGE Project of the Bangladesh Computer Council, ICT Division was held on 12 May 2025 at the Computer lab of CSE dept., Eastern University. 75 students from Law department are participating at 60 hours MS Office tools training program to enhance their technological capabilities. In his valuable speech, Prof. Md. Shamsul Huda, Vice Chancellor (Acting) of EU highlighted how new technologies like AI and robotics are changing job fields and why learning of digital skills is so important now-a-days. A.B.M. Imdadul Haque Khan, Dean, Faculty of Law and Mohammad Mamunur Rashid, Chairperson, Dept. of Law was also present in this program and highlighted the impact of technologies in our regular life. Venue focal point of this training program Muhammad Mahfuz Hasan, Chairperson, CSE did a fantastic job organizing this event for the students of Eastern University.
