It is with immense pride and joy that Eastern University announces a historic achievement. For the very first time in the university’s history, the team from the Eastern University Moot Court Society (EUMCS) has qualified for the International Rounds of the Monroe E. Price Media Law Moot Court Competition 2025-26. This prestigious international event is scheduled to be held from April 14th to April 16th, 2026, at the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights, Faculty of Law, University of Oxford. The EUMCS team, comprising Md Sakib Khondoker, Jonayed Al Ratul, and Mehbuba Akter Maria, earned this qualification by demonstrating exceptional merit at the 16th South Asia Regional Rounds. This round, held virtually from February 6th to 8th, 2026, was hosted by National Law University (NLU), Delhi, in collaboration with the Centre for Communication Governance at NLU Delhi and the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights, University of Oxford. Notably, this marks the first time any team from Bangladesh has secured a position in the Semifinals of the regional round, adding further glory to the team's success. Furthermore, Eastern University will be the sole representative from Bangladesh on this international stage this year. The Monroe E. Price Media Law Moot Court Competition, established in 2008, is recognized as one of the most respected global mooting competitions. Named in honor of Professor Monroe E. Price, the founder of the Programme in Comparative Media Law and Policy (PCMLP) at the University of Oxford, the competition serves as a unique platform for students to debate and explore complex legal issues related to freedom of expression and international law. It particularly encourages students from developing countries to engage in informed debates regarding international norms of free speech and the intersection of law and technology. This landmark achievement is a shining example of Eastern University’s commitment to legal excellence and rigorous academic inquiry. The Department of Pharmacy at Eastern University, in coordination with the Eastern University Pharma Club, successfully hosted its Annual Picnic on February 5, 2026, at the vibrant Nandan Park. Recognizing that periodic breaks from the rigorous academic schedule are essential for maintaining motivation and fostering a healthy work-life balance, the department organized this excursion to bring together students, faculty, and their families for a day of relaxation and community building. The day began with great enthusiasm as participants arrived at the park, quickly diving into the various attractions. The morning was filled with energy as everyone enjoyed the park’s signature rides and the refreshing environment of the Water World. This informal setting provided a unique opportunity for students and faculty members to interact outside the traditional classroom environment, strengthening the bonds that define the "Pharmacy Family" at Eastern University. Following a communal lunch, the festivities continued with a series of organized games and spirited activities designed to encourage teamwork and friendly competition. The Eastern University Model United Nations Association (EUMUNA) successfully organized a groundbreaking seminar, “Currency as Power: The Rise of the Dollar and the Quest for a New Global Monetary System,” marking the first seminar of its kind at Eastern University. This pioneering event provided students with a platform to engage deeply with global monetary systems, economic power, diplomacy and policy formulation. We were honored to have Mr. Rezwan Khair Fahim, Lecturer, School of Law, Eastern University, as our distinguished speaker. The program was further strengthened by the active guidance of EUMUNA Coordinator Humaira Shegufta Chowdhury. 𝐉𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐩 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐋𝐚𝐰 𝐌𝐨𝐨𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 Eastern University emerged as the National Champion at the 10th Bangladesh Qualifying Rounds of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition 2026 and has qualified for the International Rounds, once again representing Bangladesh on the global stage. In the final round, Eastern University competed against the University of Dhaka. The championship-winning team comprised Sakib Khondoker (Researcher), Zarin Sadaf Lopa and Parisha Mehezabeen (Oralists), and Md. Sakib Sarker (Additional Researcher) —coached by A.B.M. Imdadul Haque Khan and Md. Omar Farque Tamim —demonstrated exceptional legal research, incisive arguments, and confident advocacy to claim the national title. The Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition is the largest and most prestigious moot court competition for law students worldwide and is widely known as the “World Cup Moot.” The Bangladesh Qualifying Rounds of Jessup 2026 were organized by Jessup Bangladesh and the ILSA Bangladesh Chapter, in association with Hearth Bangladesh, Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, and AIUB, marking the tenth consecutive year of the competition in Bangladesh. This year’s national rounds witnessed a record participation of 48 law schools from across the country, making it the largest national Jessup competition in South Asia and the third largest in the world. Among the ten editions of the Bangladesh Qualifying Rounds held to date, Eastern University’s qualification marks its sixth advancement to the international rounds, including four championships and two runner-up finishes—a testament to its sustained excellence in mooting. Upon their return, the team was warmly congratulated by Honorable Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Farid A. Sobhani, Treasurer Professor Md. Shamsul Huda, and Registrar Dr. Abul Basher Khan, followed by a celebratory photo session. The Department of Law also accorded the team a red-carpet welcome and hosted a reception at Rezakul Haider Hall, Eastern University. The day was filled with fun activities and games, along with enthusiastic participation from students, creating a vibrant and energetic atmosphere. Laughter, teamwork, and friendly competition defined the celebration, making it a truly enjoyable experience for everyone involved. The occasion was honored by the gracious presence of the Vice Chancellor, Treasurer, Registrar, and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees. On 01 February 2026, a Physiotherapy Awareness Seminar & Free Screening Camp was organized at the campus of Eastern University under the initiative of the Eastern University Public Health Club (EUPHC). The primary objective of the program was to raise awareness about the prevention of neck and back pain among students and university stakeholders. The event was graced by the presence of the Honorable Vice-Chancellor of Eastern University, Professor Dr. Farid A. Sobhani, as the Chief Guest. In his inaugural speech, he highlighted the importance of health awareness among students and appreciated the initiative of establishing a dedicated public health club at the university. He also expressed optimism regarding the future activities of EUPHC. Mr. Abul Quasem Haider, Founder Chairman of Eastern University Foundation, was present at the program as an Honorable Guest. The keynote presentation was delivered by Dr. M Easin Ali, Chairman and Chief Consultant of Dhaka City Physiotherapy Hospital. He discussed the common causes of neck and back pain, preventive measures, correct posture, and the importance of physiotherapy in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The program was further honored by the presence of Professor Md. Shamsul Huda, Treasurer of Eastern University, and Dr. Abul Basher Khan, Registrar of Eastern University. Professor Dr. Md. Mahfuzur Rahman, Dean of the School of Engineering, Eastern University, attended the program as the Special Guest. Eastern University is pleased to announce that Professor Brigadier General (Retd.) A K M Iqbal Azim, PhD, ndc, psc, G+ has joined Eastern University as the Dean and Professor of the School of Business Administration. His appointment marks an important step in strengthening the university’s academic leadership and propelling the quality of business education. Dr. Azim brings with him a strong combination of leadership experience, academic excellence, and institutional vision. A graduate of the prestigious National Defence College (NDC), Defence Services Command and Staff (DSCSC) College and Artillery Centre & School (ACS), he also holds a PhD with Fellowship from RU (IBS), MBA from Canada, Master of Defence Studies (MDS) from NU and Master of Science Technical (MST) from NU where he achieved excellent academic results. His background reflects disciplined leadership, strategic thinking, and a deep understanding of higher education. Before joining Eastern University, Dr. Azim served as the Vice Chancellor (Designate) of Synergy University Bangladesh and Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) at Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP). He is the academic specialist of Public Service Commission (PSC). He also served as the Commandant of ACS and Principal of Rajshahi Cadet College, his alma mater with utmost efficiency. During his tenure, he worked closely with faculties, instructors and students. He supervised & moderated a good number of postgraduate research, contributed to curriculum development and academic quality improvement. He possesses a book publication based on doctoral research in his credit including few article publications. In addition, Dr. Azim has extensive international exposure. He has attended academic courses abroad, presented Bangladesh in international academic and security forums, participated in United Nations peacekeeping & observer missions, and visited numerous countries across Asia, Europe, North America, and the Middle East. These experiences have given him a global perspective that he now brings to Eastern University. He has keen interest in golfing and sports. He is married and proud father of a daughter. Eastern University believes that Dr. Azim’s unique leadership will play a vital role in strengthening the School of Business Administration, enhancing research and industry engagement, and preparing students to meet national and global challenges. ২৭ জানুয়ারী ২০২৬ ইং ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির নিজস্ব ক্যাম্পাসে স্প্রিং-২০২৬ সেমিস্টারের শিক্ষার্থীদের নবীন বরণ অনুষ্ঠিত হয়েছে। এসময় নতুন শিক্ষার্থীদের ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটি পরিবারে স্বাগত জানানো হয়। অনুষ্ঠানে ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির মাননীয় উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক ড. ফরিদ আহমদ সোবহানীর সভাপতিত্বে প্রধান অতিথি হিসেবে বক্তব্য প্রদান করেন ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক ড. নিয়াজ আহমেদ খান। বিশেষ অতিথি হিসেবে বক্তৃতা দিয়েছেন মডার্ন ই-লার্নিং এর প্রতিষ্ঠাতা ও জর্জ ওয়াশিংটন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়, ইউএসএ এর সাবেক অধ্যাপক ড. বদরুল হুদা খান এবং ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটি বোর্ড অব ট্রাস্টিজ এর চেয়ারম্যান ব্যারিস্টার সাফায়েত মোহাম্মদ রাজু। সম্মানিত অতিথি হিসেবে বক্তব্য দিয়েছে ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির প্রাক্তন শিক্ষার্থী স্পেশাল ট্রাইব্যুনাল, মহানগর দায়রা জজ আদালত এর অতিরিক্ত পাবলিক প্রসিকিউটর এডভোকেট মোঃ আব্দুল্লাহ আল মামুন। বক্তরা তাদের বক্তব্যে শিক্ষার্থীদেরকে মনোযোগী, নৈতিক ও পেশাগতভাবে দক্ষ নাগরিক হিসেবে গড়ে ওঠার আহ্বান জানান। তারা উচ্চশিক্ষার মাধ্যমে সমাজে নেতৃত্ব সৃষ্টির গুরুত্ব নিয়েও আলোচনা করেন। অনুষ্ঠানে নতুন শিক্ষার্থীদের বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের একাডেমিক কাঠামো, বিভিন্ন সেবা, ক্লাব কার্যক্রম ও ক্যাম্পাস লাইফ সম্পর্কে ধারণা দেওয়া হয়। পরিশেষে শিক্ষার্থীদের পরিবেশনায় মনোজ্ঞ সাংস্কৃতিক অনুষ্ঠানের মধ্য দিয়ে অনুষ্ঠানটি শেষ হয়। অনুষ্ঠানে আরো বক্তব্য রাখেন ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির ট্রেজারার প্রফেসর মো. শামসুল হুদা, রেজিস্ট্রার ড. আবুল বাশার খান, প্রযুক্তি ও প্রকৌশলী অনুষদের ডীন প্রফেসর ড. মো. মাহফুজুর রহমান, আইন অনুষদের ডীন এ.বি.এম. ইমদাদুল হক খান, ব্যবসায় প্রশাসন অনুষদের ডীন প্রফেসর ব্রিগেডিয়ার জেনারেল ড. একেএম ইকবাল আজিম, এনডিসি, পিএসসি, জি+ (অব.), কলা অনুষদের ডীন ড. শাফিয়া আখতার, জীবন বিজ্ঞান অনুষদের এডভাইজার প্রফেসর ড. ফিরোজ আহমেদ প্রমুখ। তারা উপস্থিত সকল অতিথি, শিক্ষক, কর্মকর্তা ও শিক্ষার্থীদের ধন্যবাদ জ্ঞাপন করেন এবং নতুন শিক্ষার্থীদের সফল শিক্ষাজীবনের শুভকামনা জানান।

The School of Business, in collaboration with the Office of Student Affairs (OSA), organized a heartfelt farewell ceremony to honor our esteemed Dean, Prof. Dr. M. Sayedur Rahman. It was an afternoon filled with nostalgia, gratitude, and pride as we celebrated his remarkable journey at Eastern University. We are incredibly proud to announce that Prof. Dr. M. Sayedur Rahman has taken on a new mantle as the Vice-Chancellor of North Bengal International University. While we will miss his leadership, we celebrate this prestigious milestone in his career! The event was graced by the Honorable Vice-Chancellor of Eastern University, Prof. Dr. Farid A. Sobhani, as the Chief Guest. Our Treasurer, Professor Shamsul Huda, and Registrar, Dr. Abul Basher Khan, also joined to share their appreciation. With the supervision and the guidance of the Pharma Club’s Faculty Coordinator of the Year 2026 Ms. Tasnia Binte Bari Kabbo, the dynamic members of the Pharma Club of Eastern University has successfully organized two events on 20th January 2026: Fresher’s Reception Spring 2026 and Club Committee Handover 2026. Freshman’s Reception Spring 2026 started with a rally which was led by the honorable Treasurer of Eastern University Prof. Md Shamsul Huda , Advisor of the Department of Pharmacy Prof Dr. Firoj Ahmed, Head of the Department of Pharmacy’s Dr. Abu bin Ihsan, Ms. Tasnia Binte Bari Kabbo, faculty members and students of the Department of Pharmacy of Eastern University. After the rally, everyone was seated at the Rezakul Haider Hall where the Guest of Honor Mr. Muhammad Shamim Alam Khan, Executive Director of Unimed Unihealth Pharmaceuticals Ltd.; Special Guest Dr. Md Abu Zafor Sadek, Deputy General Manager of Unimed Unihealth Pharmaceuticals Ltd.; and Chief Guest Dr. Farid A. Sobhani, the Vice Chancellor of Eastern University blessed the students and faculty members with their presence and spoke a few words of motivation. Eastern University and United Healthcare have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in healthcare services for students, faculty members, and staff. The MoU signing ceremony was held yesterday at the United Medical College Hospital. The MoU was signed on behalf of Eastern University by Honorable Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Farid A. Sobhani, and on behalf of United Healthcare by Mohammad Faizur Rahman, Chief Executive Officer (Healthcare Division), United Group. Representing Eastern University at the ceremony were K. M. Monirul Islam, Deputy Director, Office of Student Affairs and Placement, and Md. Mohiuddin Majumder, Assistant Director, Public Relations. From United Healthcare, Tareq Sami Rahman, Head of Customer Relations Department & Corporate Marketing, was also present. Under the agreement, students, faculty members, and officers and staff of Eastern University will receive exclusive discounts on medical treatment, diagnostic tests, and cabin services at United Healthcare. Both institutions expressed optimism that this collaboration will enhance access to quality healthcare for the university community and pave the way for expanded cooperation in the future.

Eastern University is proud to announce that Noman Bin Hossain, a student of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Batch 61, has been honored with an award in the “Student Category (Student Icon)” at the OWS National Tech Award. The highly competitive program featured six categories and assessed participants through a rigorous process involving applications, public voting, and viva evaluation. Noman achieved an impressive 9th position in the overall public voting across all categories and secured 2nd position in the Student Icon Category, reflecting his outstanding contributions and impact in the field of technology. The award ceremony was held on 16 January 2026 at the Muktijoddha Auditorium, IDEB Building, Kakrail VIP Road, Dhaka. Noman is widely recognized for his leadership and community engagement, serving as Open Mapping Guru (Asia Pacific), President of YouthMappers at Eastern University, Secretary of Leo Club of Dhaka Crescent, and Joint Secretary of the Eastern University Computing Club. Under the visionary leadership of Professor Dr. Farid A. Sobhani, Honorable Vice Chancellor of Eastern University, the university successfully inaugurated the “EU New Road” on January 10, 2026, marking a significant milestone in campus infrastructure development. The newly constructed road was planned, designed, and implemented by the Department of Civil Engineering of Eastern University, reflecting the effective integration of academic knowledge with real-world engineering practice. Earlier, enthusiastic students of the department organized a Poster Presentation on “EU New Road,” showcasing innovation, learning, teamwork, and hands-on engineering experience. The project was led by Prof. Dr. Sharif Moniruzzaman Shirazi, CEng, Chairperson and Professor of the Department of Civil Engineering, whose dedication, technical expertise, and continuous efforts were instrumental in the successful completion of the road. He was closely supported by Md. Shakhawat Hossain, Assistant Director (Senior Assistant Engineer) from the Office of Operation and Maintenance, whose professional collaboration and engineering support played a vital role in the execution of the project. Their combined efforts demonstrated exemplary teamwork and institutional commitment. The inauguration ceremony was attended by members of the Board of Trustees of Eastern University Foundation, along with representatives from Rahimafrooz, highlighting strong industry–academia collaboration. Faculty members, officials, students, and respected representatives from the surrounding university area were also present, making the occasion inclusive and celebratory. In addition to the road inauguration, a newly established Admission Office located along the EU New Road was also inaugurated. The office is expected to enhance services for newly admitted and prospective students, providing easier access and improved student support.

The IEEE Eastern University Student Branch proudly announces a landmark achievement at INDCon 2025, where Eastern University emerged as Champion in the Idea Presentation Competition, outperforming Dhaka University (Runner-up). The winning project titled “IoT-Enabled Maternal & Neonatal Health Monitoring in Remote Areas” was presented by Farhan Ahmed Rahee (EEE), Shariful Islam (EEE), and Turjo Saha (CSE). In addition, Eastern University also secured 3rd Place in the Project Showcasing Competition with the project “Multipurpose Drone,” developed by Md. Shamiul Islam (EEE), Jahangir Alom (EEE), and Labib Sobhani (EEE). With participation from nearly 90 students representing 27 IEEE Student Branches across the country, INDCon 2025 showcased outstanding innovation, creativity, and technical excellence. Honorable Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Farid A. Sobhani, personally congratulated the winning teams, expressing his pride in the students’ achievements and appreciating their dedication to research, innovation, and real-world problem solving. His presence and encouragement served as a great inspiration for the students. These achievements also reflect the strong mentorship and leadership of Md. Both sessions were presided over by the Honorable Vice Chancellor of Eastern University, Professor Dr. Farid A. Sobhani. 🔹 Session I (Administrative Development Session): “Strengthening Teamwork for a Positive Workplace Environment” The session was conducted by Ms. Nilufer Ahmed Karim, Free-lance Gender and Management Consultant and Trainer, and Former Faculty Member, Bangladesh Institute of Management (BIM), Ministry of Industries. The discussion highlighted the importance of teamwork, effective communication, and fostering a positive workplace culture. 🔹 Session II (Faculty Development Session): “From Lecturers to Leaders: Faculty as Change Agents” The session was facilitated by Prof. Dr. Syed Saad Andaleeb, Distinguished Professor Emeritus, Pennsylvania State University, USA, and Former Honorable Vice-Chancellor of BRAC University. The session emphasized leadership development and the pivotal role of faculty members as agents of change in higher education. ঢাকা, ২৯ ডিসেম্বর ২০২৫: ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির ক্যাম্পাসে আজ আনুষ্ঠানিকভাবে উদ্বোধন করা হয়েছে বহুল প্রতীক্ষিত উদ্যোক্তা মেলা “ব্যাটল অব ট্রেডার্স– সিজন ৫” এবং উইন্টার ফেস্ট। মেলাটির আয়োজন করেছে ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটি বিজনেস অ্যান্ড সোশ্যাল এন্টারপ্রেনারশিপ ক্লাব (BSEC)। অনুষ্ঠানের উদ্বোধন করেন ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির মাননীয় উপাচার্য প্রফেসর ড. ফরিদ আহমদ সোবহানী। এ সময় বিশেষ অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন যুক্তরাজ্যের অক্সফোর্ড ইউনিভার্সিটির প্রফেসোরিয়াল ফেলো অধ্যাপক হাফিজ টি. এ. খান (Prof. Hafiz T. A. Khan, Professorial Fellow, Oxford University) । এছাড়াও অনুষ্ঠানে উপস্থিত ছিলেন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের রেজিস্ট্রার, ডিনবৃন্দ, বিভিন্ন বিভাগের প্রধানগণ, শিক্ষক, কর্মকর্তা-কর্মচারী এবং বিপুল সংখ্যক শিক্ষার্থী। এই উদ্যোক্তা মেলায় ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির শিক্ষার্থীদের পাশাপাশি অংশগ্রহন করে দেশের অন্যান্য বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় ও কলেজের শিক্ষার্থীরা। নানা ধরনের সৃজনশীল ও উদ্ভাবনী স্টল এর বাহারি পণ্যে সেজেছে মেলাটি। মেলাটি তরুণ উদ্যোক্তাদের ব্যবসায়িক ধারণা বাস্তবায়ন, পণ্য প্রদর্শন ও উদ্যোক্তা সক্ষমতা বিকাশে একটি কার্যকর প্ল্যাটফর্ম হিসেবে কাজ করবে। উদ্বোধনী বক্তব্যে মাননীয় উপাচার্য তরুণদের উদ্যোক্তা মানসিকতা গড়ে তোলার ওপর গুরুত্ব আরোপ করেন এবং এ ধরনের উদ্যোগ শিক্ষার্থীদের বাস্তবমুখী শিক্ষা ও নেতৃত্ব বিকাশে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা রাখবে বলে উল্লেখ করেন। তিন দিনব্যাপী এই আয়োজন ২৯, ৩০ ও ৩১ ডিসেম্বর ২০২৫ পর্যন্ত চলবে। উদ্যোক্তা মেলার পাশাপাশি উইন্টার ফেস্ট উপলক্ষে দর্শনার্থীদের জন্য রয়েছে নানা ধরনের বাহারি পিঠা ও খাবারের স্টল, যা ক্যাম্পাসে উৎসবমুখর পরিবেশ সৃষ্টি করেছে। উক্ত মেলার সার্বিক তত্ত্বাবধায়নে ছিলেন ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির অফিস অব দ্যা স্টুডেন্ট এফেয়ার্স ও প্লেসমেন্ট এর উপপরিচালক কে এম মনিরুল ইসলাম।

CSE department of Eastern University organized a seminar titled “Software Development and Related Issues” on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at the Moot Court of the university. The seminar was arranged by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Eastern University. The Honorable Vice-Chancellor of Eastern University, Prof. Dr. Farid A. Sobhani, attended the program as the Chief Guest. Mr. Afzalur Rahman, Member of the Board of Trustees, Eastern University, was present as the Special Guest. The keynote presentation was delivered by Mr. Abdur Rahman, Software Designer at Nokia, Canada, who participated as the Resource Person. In his speech, he shared practical insights on modern software development practices, industry challenges, and future career opportunities for students in the global technology sector. The session was chaired by Prof. Dr. Md. Mahfuzur Rahman, Dean, School of Engineering, Eastern University. Faculty members, officials, and a large number of students actively participated in the seminar.
