Eastern University yesterday 5 May 2026 hosted a high-impact Employability Masterclass and scholarship awarding ceremony at Rezakul Haider Hall. Organized by FutureNation in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Eastern University’s Office of Student Affairs and Placement (OSAP), the event focused on bridging the gap between academic life and professional success. The session highlighted how the right combination of skills, guidance, and mentorship empowers youth to excel in entrepreneurship, freelancing, and the global job market.
The event was graced by Prof. Dr. Farid A. Sobhani, Vice-Chancellor of Eastern University, who attended as the Chief Guest. He emphasized the university’s commitment to equipping students with practical, industry-relevant skills beyond traditional classroom learning, noting that masterclasses and interactive workshops play a crucial role in building the confidence required to compete on a global stage. Among other attendees from Eastern University were Prof. Brigadier General Dr. A K M Iqbal Azim, ndc, psc, G+ (Retd), Dean of the School of Business; Dr. Farhana Khan, Associate Professor, Business Administration and co-ordinator of BSEC; K.M. Manirul Islam, Deputy Director of the Office of the Student Affairs and Placement; and Md. Mohiuddin Majumder, Assistant Director of Public Relations.
During the keynote segment, Md. Abdul Quayyum, Head of Communications at UNDP Bangladesh, led the masterclass titled “Bridging the Gap.” In his speech, Mr. Quayyum focused extensively on the critical importance of soft skills, describing them as an essential foundation for all career paths, regardless of technical specialization. He explained that emotional intelligence, adaptability, and effective communication are the true differentiators in a competitive global market.
The session featured a lively and interactive question-and-answer segment, where students engaged directly with Mr. Quayyum to seek practical guidance on communication strategies, career development, and personal branding. Responding with real-world insights, he transformed the session into a collaborative learning experience, encouraging students to think strategically about their professional paths.
The program concluded with the awarding of scholarships to deserving participants, marking an important milestone in their journey toward becoming future leaders and entrepreneurs. This initiative, supported by the Eastern University Business & Social Entrepreneurship Club (BSEC), underscores a collective mission to create sustainable economic opportunities for the youth of Bangladesh.
