The Department of English, Eastern University, in collaboration with the Eastern University English Club (EUEC), organized the Autumn Festival – 2025 on Sunday, 14 September 2025. The celebration took place on the premises of the department of English and in Rezakul Haider Hall, amidst an atmosphere of festivity, creativity, and cultural exuberance.
The programme was coordinated by Ms. Kazi Tahmina, Assistant Professor of the Department of English in collaboration with the Eastern University English Club with guidance and support of Mr. Khaled Mahmud, Lecturer of the Department of English and Sadia Islam Ratri, Lecturer of the same department.
The festival commenced with a welcome address by Mr. Md. Rofiussan, Chairperson of the Department of English, who stated the indispensability of cultural and co-curricular engagement in enriching students’ holistic learning experience. This was followed by the inaugural speech of Professor Dr. Farid Ahmmad Sobhani, Honourable Vice-Chancellor of Eastern University, who extolled the Department of English for their initiative, emphasizing the role of such programmes in cultivating creativity, leadership, and community spirit.
The day’s proceedings harmoniously interwove stall exhibitions, competitions, and cultural performances, creating a vibrant tapestry of creativity and enthusiasm. Students demonstrated remarkable entrepreneurial skill through a diverse range of stalls, featuring homemade delicacies, dresses, handicrafts, jeweleries, and exquisitely designed stationery. These stalls emerged as a focal attraction, fostering lively interaction among participants and visitors alike. In addition, infusing dynamism into the occasion, the festival offered a variety of engaging contests. Students enthusiastically participated in the vocabulary competition, tongue twister challenge, pillow passing, ball throwing, instant quiz, and the set speech competition. Winners of the games and competitions were awarded with prizes, which were graciously distributed by the Honourable Vice-Chancellor, adding further encouragement and recognition to their achievements. Furthermore, the cultural segment infused the festival with rhythm, expression, and vibrancy. Performers enthralled the audience through singing, poetry recitations, graceful dances and fashion show, reflecting cultural diversity and aesthetic depth. The highlight was an engaging dramatic skit on Shakespeare’s Macbeth, which captivated the audience through spirited performances, and profound thematic message. This segment epitomized the collective artistic brilliance of the students.
The programme was rounded off with words of appreciation from the distinguished guests. The Honourable Vice-Chancellor lauded the students’ dedication, creativity, and participation, commending the Department for arranging such a resplendent celebration. He further encouraged the continuation of similar endeavours to sustain an environment of collaboration and creativity. The Chairperson of the department of English, Mr. Md. Rofiussan, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the coordinators, faculty members, collaborators, and students whose concerted efforts ensured the programme’s resounding success.
The Autumn Festival – 2025 was not merely a celebration of a season, but a manifestation of unity, creativity, and cultural enrichment that distinguishes the Department of English at Eastern University. It was an occasion that seamlessly blended festivity with learning, leaving behind cherished memories and reinforcing the Department’s enduring commitment to nurturing holistic growth of the students.
