Eastern University warmly welcomes Dr. Shafia Akhter, the newly appointed Dean of the School of Arts.
Dr. Shafia Akhter is an Associate Professor in the Department of English, School of Arts, Eastern University. In addition, she has served as a part-time faculty member at University of Malaya, Malaysia.
Dr. Shafia Akhter holds a PhD in Translation Studies from University of Malaya, Malaysia. Her doctoral research, titled “The Translation of Figurative Language from Bengali into English in Sanchita”, examined key issues in cross-linguistic figurative expression and literary translation. She earned her Bachelor of English with Honours and Master of Arts in English from Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh, and her MESL (Master of English as a Second Language) from University of Malaya, Malaysia.
She has published several research articles in peer-reviewed academic journals and has presented papers at international conferences. She also has several translated works to her credit.
Her current research interests include literary translation, audiovisual translation, and Second Language Acquisition.
