Eastern University emerged as the National Champion at the 10th Bangladesh Qualifying Rounds of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition 2026 and has qualified for the International Rounds, once again representing Bangladesh on the global stage. In the final round, Eastern University competed against the University of Dhaka. The championship-winning team comprised Sakib Khondoker (Researcher), Zarin Sadaf Lopa and Parisha Mehezabeen (Oralists), and Md. Sakib Sarker (Additional Researcher) âcoached by A.B.M. Imdadul Haque Khan and Md. Omar Farque Tamim âdemonstrated exceptional legal research, incisive arguments, and confident advocacy to claim the national title.
The Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition is the largest and most prestigious moot court competition for law students worldwide and is widely known as the âWorld Cup Moot.â The Bangladesh Qualifying Rounds of Jessup 2026 were organized by Jessup Bangladesh and the ILSA Bangladesh Chapter, in association with Hearth Bangladesh, Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, and AIUB, marking the tenth consecutive year of the competition in Bangladesh.
This yearâs national rounds witnessed a record participation of 48 law schools from across the country, making it the largest national Jessup competition in South Asia and the third largest in the world. Among the ten editions of the Bangladesh Qualifying Rounds held to date, Eastern Universityâs qualification marks its sixth advancement to the international rounds, including four championships and two runner-up finishesâa testament to its sustained excellence in mooting.
Upon their return, the team was warmly congratulated by Honorable Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Farid A. Sobhani, Treasurer Professor Md. Shamsul Huda, and Registrar Dr. Abul Basher Khan, followed by a celebratory photo session. The Department of Law also accorded the team a red-carpet welcome and hosted a reception at Rezakul Haider Hall, Eastern University.
