Abstract: Research on identifying factors of job stress is now not in the stage of infancy but how these factors influence the quality of work life is still at the growing stage. Stress is a physical and mental state. The adverse impact of stress on the organization is that it creates serious management dilemmas while its positive impact leads an organization towards success.
This research aims to identify the antecedents (namely, job insecurity, work overload, conflict and organizational structure and environment) of job stress as well as their impact on quality of work life (QWL) of employees working at commercial banks operating in Bangladesh.
This study employed a positivist research approach along with a survey research design where quantitative research methods were utilized. Purposive sampling method was applied to 267 respondent from the study population for the purpose of data collection. A structured questionnaire was developed by integrating the Likert-type scales of measurement for the constructs to collect data. A structural equation modelling (SEM) was applied to address research hypotheses using SPSS AMOS software.
The findings present that job stress is significantly impacted by the antecedents namely as job insecurity, work overload and organizational structure and environment, whereas role conflict does not have any signification role in job stress. The findings also show that job stress has a significant negative impact on quality of work life.
Based on the findings, it is recommended that management and Human Resource (HRD) professionals should make appropriate decisions for managing better workplace environment to reduce or maintain tolerable level of job stress thus employees can have better balance of their professional and personal life.
