Eastern University organized a seminar titled “Next-Generation Road Transportation and Intelligent Systems Technologies: Towards Research Collaboration, Higher Study, and Career Opportunities in Japan” on August 19, 2026, at it's campus in Ashulia Model Town.
Prof. Dr. Farid A. Sobhani, Honorable Vice Chancellor of Eastern University, attended the seminar as the Chief Guest. In his remarks, he emphasized the importance of international academic and research opportunities for students and encouraged them to prepare themselves for higher studies and global careers.
Prof. Kou Yamada, Distinguished Faculty Member of the Graduate School of Science and Technology, Gunma University, Japan, attended as the Guest of Honor. He introduced Gunma University and highlighted opportunities for international students, including scholarships, student exchange, language and cultural exchange programmes, training, and master’s and PhD studies. He also noted that Gunma university offers relatively affordable living compared with Tokyo and has convenient access to the capital. He encouraged undergraduate students to prepare early for higher studies in Japan.
Dr. Md. Abdus Samad Kamal, Associate Professor of the Graduate School of Science and Technology, Gunma University, delivered the keynote presentation. He discussed major challenges in road transportation, including traffic congestion, fuel consumption, carbon emissions and accidents. He explained how human factors, vehicles and road conditions contribute to accidents and highlighted the role of autonomous driving and intelligent transportation systems in addressing these challenges.
He also discussed emerging areas such as connected vehicles, V2X communication, smart mobility, intelligent transportation systems, smart-city transportation, traffic control, cooperative control systems and 5G-based digital transformation. He emphasized the growing demand for skilled professionals in Japan and encouraged students to explore research, higher study and career opportunities in these fields, including collaboration with automotive industries.
Prof. Dr. Md. Mahfuzur Rahman, Dean of the School of Engineering, Eastern University, chaired the session.
The seminar provided students with practical insights into advanced transportation technologies, research opportunities, scholarships, higher studies and career prospects in Japan. It also strengthened the scope for academic and research collaboration between Eastern University and Japanese institutions.
