Course Contents: Introduction (About ILHR, Human Rights); Evolution of International Law of Human Rights (particular emphasis on three generations of human rights; evolution of International Bill of Rights); UDHR (evolution, contents, legal force/importance); ICCPR (nature of rights, limitations, enforcement); ICESCR (nature of rights, limitations, enforcement); nature of state obligation under ICCPR and ICESCR; Elaborate discussion on some rights under ICCPR & ICESCR (Right to life, Right of self-determination and Minority rights); Detailing enforcement mechanisms under ICCPR and ICESCR (institutions, State reporting, Inter-state applications and Individual communications); Admissibility criteria, various stages of the procedure, and outcome of Individual communications; Regional system of human rights (European, Inter-American and African system); ILHR in particular to specific issues (women rights under CEDAW, child rights under CRC, prohibition on torture under CAT); Recent developments in the area of ILHR (‘Business and Human Rights/Multi-duty bearer concept’ and ‘Environment and Human Rights/ right to healthy environment’).
