The Eastern University Model United Nations Association (EUMUNA) successfully organized a groundbreaking seminar, “Currency as Power: The Rise of the Dollar and the Quest for a New Global Monetary System,” marking the first seminar of its kind at Eastern University. This pioneering event provided students with a platform to engage deeply with global monetary systems, economic power, diplomacy and policy formulation. We were honored to have Mr. Rezwan Khair Fahim, Lecturer, School of Law, Eastern University, as our distinguished speaker. The program was further strengthened by the active guidance of EUMUNA Coordinator Humaira Shegufta Chowdhury. Founding members Farhan Ahmed Rahee and Mashmum Fiza Haque were also present to witness this historic seminar. Respected faculty members and enthusiastic students participated actively, creating a vibrant academic environment. A special highlight of the seminar was the Interactive Quiz Segment, which tested knowledge, encouraged critical thinking and promoted confident, quick decision-making. Participation certificates were awarded to all attendees, with special recognition for the top performers in the quiz. Eastern University marked the sacred occasion of Sri Sri Saraswati Puja on 23 January 2026 in an atmosphere filled with reverence and celebration. Held at the Eastern University Playground, the program brought together faculty members, students, and university officials to participate in Pushpanjali, seeking blessings from Goddess Saraswati, the symbol of knowledge, wisdom, and creativity. Eastern University and United Healthcare have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in healthcare services for students, faculty members, and staff. The MoU signing ceremony was held yesterday at the United Medical College Hospital. The MoU was signed on behalf of Eastern University by Honorable Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Farid A. Sobhani, and on behalf of United Healthcare by Mohammad Faizur Rahman, Chief Executive Officer (Healthcare Division), United Group. Representing Eastern University at the ceremony were K. M. Monirul Islam, Deputy Director, Office of Student Affairs and Placement, and Md. Mohiuddin Majumder, Assistant Director, Public Relations. From United Healthcare, Tareq Sami Rahman, Head of Customer Relations Department & Corporate Marketing, was also present. Under the agreement, students, faculty members, and officers and staff of Eastern University will receive exclusive discounts on medical treatment, diagnostic tests, and cabin services at United Healthcare. Both institutions expressed optimism that this collaboration will enhance access to quality healthcare for the university community and pave the way for expanded cooperation in the future.

বুধবার ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির রেজাকুল হায়দার হলে ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটি বোর্ড অব ট্রাস্টিজ ও ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটি ফাউন্ডেশনের বর্তমান চেয়ারম্যান ব্যারিস্টার সাফায়েত মোহাম্মদ রাজু–কে ফুলেল সংবর্ধনার মাধ্যমে উষ্ণ অভ্যর্থনা জানানো হয়। উপাচার্য প্রফেসর ড. ফরিদ আহমদ সোবহানীর সভাপতিত্বে আয়োজিত এ অনুষ্ঠানে বিভিন্ন অনুষদের ডিন, বিভাগীয় প্রধান, শিক্ষক, কর্মকর্তা ও কর্মচারীবৃন্দ উপস্থিত ছিলেন। অনুষ্ঠানে চেয়ারম্যান ব্যারিস্টার সাফায়েত মোহাম্মদ রাজু বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের চলমান ও ভবিষ্যৎ উন্নয়নমূলক কর্মকাণ্ড নিয়ে বক্তব্য দেন। তিনি নৈতিক শিক্ষা, গবেষণা এবং শিক্ষা কার্যক্রমকে আরও শক্তিশালী করার ওপর গুরুত্বারোপ করেন। শিক্ষার্থীদের প্রতি আরও মনোযোগী হওয়া এবং তাদের সর্বোচ্চ অগ্রাধিকার দেওয়ার আহ্বান জানিয়ে তিনি বলেন, শিক্ষার্থীরাই আগামী দিনের নেতৃত্ব দেবে এবং বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়কে সামনে এগিয়ে নিয়ে যাবে। এ সময় তিনি শিক্ষার্থীদের প্রযুক্তিগত দক্ষতা বৃদ্ধিতে গৃহীত উদ্যোগের কথা উল্লেখ করে জানান, ইতোমধ্যে ১,২০০-এর অধিক শিক্ষার্থীকে মাইক্রোসফট কোপাইলট এআই-এর প্রো ভার্সনের বিনামূল্যের এক্সেস প্রদান করা হয়েছে। ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটি কর্তৃপক্ষ নতুন চেয়ারম্যানকে সাদরে গ্রহণের মধ্য দিয়ে নতুন বছরের কার্যক্রমের সূচনা করে এবং তাঁর নেতৃত্বে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের অগ্রযাত্রা আরও বেগবান হবে বলে আশাবাদ ব্যক্ত করা হয়।

Eastern University, through its Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), successfully organized two capacity-building sessions on 6 January 2026 at Rezakul Haider Hall. Both sessions were presided over by the Honorable Vice Chancellor of Eastern University, Professor Dr. Farid A. Sobhani. 🔹 Session I (Administrative Development Session): “Strengthening Teamwork for a Positive Workplace Environment” The session was conducted by Ms. Nilufer Ahmed Karim, Free-lance Gender and Management Consultant and Trainer, and Former Faculty Member, Bangladesh Institute of Management (BIM), Ministry of Industries. The discussion highlighted the importance of teamwork, effective communication, and fostering a positive workplace culture. 🔹 Session II (Faculty Development Session): “From Lecturers to Leaders: Faculty as Change Agents” The session was facilitated by Prof. Dr. Syed Saad Andaleeb, Distinguished Professor Emeritus, Pennsylvania State University, USA, and Former Honorable Vice-Chancellor of BRAC University. The session emphasized leadership development and the pivotal role of faculty members as agents of change in higher education. The sessions reflect Eastern University’s continued commitment to professional development, quality assurance, and institutional excellence.

The Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and the Department of English, Eastern University, in collaboration with the Eastern University English Club (EUEC), organized an academic session titled “Academic Session: Basics of Academic Research in Language and Literature” under the theme, “From Idea to Presentation: Practical Skills for Academic Research.” The session was held recently at Rezakul Haidar Hall, Eastern University, for the students of the Department of English. The initiative was undertaken as part of the department’s commitment to academic excellence and research development in the field of English language and literature. The session was coordinated by Dr. Md. Ashraf Hossain, Professor, Faculty of Business Administration and Director, IQAC, Eastern University, and Mr. Khaled Mahmud, Lecturer, Department of English. The academic session was aimed at enhancing students’ understanding of fundamental research skills in English language and literature and guiding them through the practical aspects of academic research, from conceptualization to presentation. The resource person of the session was Dr. Shafia Akhter, Associate Professor, Department of English, and Dean of the School of Arts, Eastern University. Dr. Shafia discussed the basics of academic research in English language and literature, including topic selection, formulation of research questions, writing a literature review, applying appropriate methodologies, and practicing effective academic writing within the general structure of a research paper. In addition, she threw light on contemporary perspectives and gave practical guidelines essential for conducting quality academic research in the field of English language and literature. The session was attended by around 65 participants, including both teachers and students from the Department of English. Certificates of participation were distributed among the attendees. Dr. Md. Ashraf Hossain extended his heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Shafia Akhter for conducting such a comprehensive and fruitful session on academic research. He emphasized that her practical guidelines and scholarly perspectives would greatly benefit the students in their academic journey. Dr. Ashraf also expressed his keen interest in further collaboration between the IQAC and the Department of English, highlighting the importance of joint initiatives to strengthen the culture of research and academic excellence at Eastern University. A special segment of the session featured Ms. Irene Siddique Nancy, an alumna of the Department of English, Eastern University, who is currently pursuing a PhD in Education at the Universiti Malaya, Malaysia. She has been serving as a Senior Faculty member in English Language and Literature at Scholastica School for the past fourteen years and is also working as an Adjunct Faculty member at Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology and Presidency University, and formerly at Eastern University. In her speech, Ms. Nancy highlighted the significant contribution of the Department of English, Eastern University to her academic and professional growth. She acknowledged the role of the faculty members in shaping her knowledge and skills, which have inspired her to become an English language educator and deepened her passion for English literature. At the concluding session, Mr. Rofiussan, Chairperson of the Department of English, articulated the department’s vision and initiatives regarding the enhancement of students’ knowledge and skills in academic research in English language and literature. He encouraged students to actively participate in academic contests, conferences, and research-related activities to broaden their academic exposure. He expressed his gratitude to the keynote speaker for facilitating an insightful and informative session enriched with contemporary knowledge. Eastern University warmly welcomes Dr. Shafia Akhter, the newly appointed Dean of the School of Arts. Dr. Shafia Akhter is an Associate Professor in the Department of English, School of Arts, Eastern University. In addition, she has served as a part-time faculty member at University of Malaya, Malaysia. Dr. Shafia Akhter holds a PhD in Translation Studies from University of Malaya, Malaysia. Her doctoral research, titled “The Translation of Figurative Language from Bengali into English in Sanchita”, examined key issues in cross-linguistic figurative expression and literary translation. She earned her Bachelor of English with Honours and Master of Arts in English from Jahangirnagar University, Bangladesh, and her MESL (Master of English as a Second Language) from University of Malaya, Malaysia. She has published several research articles in peer-reviewed academic journals and has presented papers at international conferences. She also has several translated works to her credit. We are pleased to share that EU Day Out 2025 was held on 11 December 2025 at Shaldah Eco Resort, Gazipur organized by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Eastern University. This event was arranged for the trainees who have awarded certificates of Digital Skills Training for students, a premier learning opportunity presented by the EDGE Project of Bangladesh Computer Council and ICT Division through IIT, Jahangirnagar University. About 150 students from B. Sc. in CSE, LL. B and MBA programs were present in the program. The event was graced by Prof. Dr. Farid A. Sobhani, Vice Chancellor of EU as chief guest and all members of Eastern University Working Committee were also present. The event was filled with fun and excitement through activities such as pillow passing, football, hari vanga, swimming and cultural segment. Faculty members, officials, students and supporting staffs enjoyed every moment of the day creating unforgettable memories through laughter, teamwork and joyful engagement. Students from the Prothom Alo Bondhushava Club of Eastern University proudly took part in a special daylong workshop focused on digital fact-checking and online verification, held on 5 December 2025 at the Prothom Alo Office in Karwan Bazar, Dhaka. A total of eleven club members participated in the intensive training titled “Question Everything You See Online: Training on Quick Fact-Checking & Verification.” The program was jointly organized by Bondhushava and Dismislab, with support from Deshi-Foods. Throughout the workshop, participants engaged in a series of insightful sessions designed to strengthen their ability to navigate the digital world responsibly. In the first session, Miraj Ahmed Chowdhury, Managing Director of Digitally Right, discussed the importance of critical thinking in evaluating online content. The second session was led by Touhidul Islam Rasu, Research Officer at Dismislab, who focused on effective information verification methods and source assessment techniques. In the third session, Yaseer Abrar, also a Research Officer at Dismislab, trained participants on detecting misleading photos and videos through reverse search tools, metadata analysis, and practical verification techniques. A special highlight of the event was the presence of renowned writer and Prothom Alo representative Mr. Anisul Haque, who emphasized Prothom Alo’s commitment to promoting responsible information verification among young people. He encouraged participants to stay vigilant about misinformation and introduced the guest trainers who conducted the sessions. The program further covered techniques for identifying AI-generated visuals and texts, as well as methods for using global digital archives to verify old images, videos, and historical content. These sessions provided valuable hands-on experience with modern fact-checking tools and real-time verification practices. By the end of the day, participants gained a strong foundation in fact-checking methodologies, developed faster techniques to validate social media content, and built greater confidence in detecting misinformation. They also received Certificates of Participation and had the opportunity to network with fellow learners and digital literacy enthusiasts, making the workshop highly enriching and impactful.
