Department of English offers a four year B.A. (Hons.) in English program. According to the UGC guideline, the curricula have been designed and prepared to make the program more oriented towards achieving Sustainable Development Goal to fulfill the needs of the age. The program follows a need-based multi syllabus approach combining well-balanced language and literature courses in order to cater to the job needs of its graduates. A well-earned degree in English opens innumerable job opportunities at home and abroad. The Program produces skilled graduates as well as good human beings who would contribute to the society professionally as well as personally. In today’s world, proficiency in English is essential for jobs at home and abroad. Graduates in English are needed for jobs ranging from teaching to media, banks, NGOs and multinational companies. Besides job opportunities at home, there is a huge demand for graduates in English for teaching jobs in the Middle-Eastern countries. The programs in English at Eastern University have been designed with these needs in view.
Students with Minimum GPA of 2.50 in SSC / Dakhil and HSC / Alim / Diploma from Technical Education Board or Minimum GPA of 2.00 in one of those examinations, with total GPA of 6.00 in both the exams will be eligible for admission into the Program
GCE students must have passed five subjects at O-Level and two subjects at A-Level. For certificates of other types of education, equivalence will be determined by the equivalence committee of the University.
The candidates with a total GPA of 10 will be admitted without any admission test. Other candidates must sit for an admission test. The one hour admission test will carry 100 marks and the candidates will be selected on the basis of marks secured subject to a minimum cut off point decided by the admission committee or the number of seats available in the program whichever reaches first
Students who are not citizens or permanent residents of Bangladesh will be considered as international applicants. International applicants seeking admission to the program must meet the same academic standards as those required for Bangladeshi students. The admission test requirement may be waived for an international student and they will be selected on the basis of their prior academic schooling, English proficiency, probability of success in pursuing the Program as evidenced by prior work in the academic area involved, and certification of adequate financial resources. Before finally offering admission to an international student, s/he must have valid visa and clearance from the Ministry of Homes of the Government of Bangladesh. EU Registrar’s office will provide all necessary assistance in this regard.
