Message from the Chairperson

Welcome to the department of English, Eastern University. Since its inception in the year 2003 the department of English at Eastern University is relentlessly working to educate its graduates as human assets for the society. We are committed to prepare them according to the needs of the 4th Industrial revolution of the 21st century. Our students are our ambassadors and most of them are successfully placed at different professional arenas across the county. They are working as teachers of schools/ colleges/ universities, as corporate job holders, BCS Cadres, journalists, translators, writers, bankers, script-writers, content/concept generators, freelancers, public relations officers, administrative officers etc. at home and abroad. At Eastern University the Department of English provides Objective Based Education to equip our graduates with the right skills so that they become assets and can positively contribute to personal and social development by choosing any of these professions! Alongside gathering knowledge our learners here accumulate humane qualities and gather greater insight. We encourage them to open their inner eyes and unleash their creative potentials. Our students enter the department eager to learn and leave as enlightened human beings for a better life and a better society. We, at the department, feel honor bound to serve the nation by building the future citizens of the country. The department offers a 4 year undergraduate program which is designed with a combination of language and literature courses. At the graduate level it offers M. A. in English Literature. In this era of globalization the importance of English as the mode of communication is indisputable. At the department, the undergraduate courses are designed in such a manner as to meet the demand of the language at the global market. At the same time the literature courses provide thorough understanding of literature in English. To meet the interdisciplinary contexts of literature, courses of history, philosophy, anthropology, sociology etc. are included at the curriculum to keep the wide horizon of the Liberal Arts open to the learners. They gather a deeper insight of the culture and English society by studying English Literature. The faculty members here are committed to promote knowledge of the world through studies of English literature, language & linguistics to our learners. Apart from their academic performances most of the teachers of the department work as coordinators of various clubs where students of the department along with other students of the university actively participate. These extra-curricular activities ensure development of the overall performance of the students throughout the university.Our graduates come out with better communicative skills and more philosophical understanding of life.
