Eastern University, through its Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), successfully organized two capacity-building sessions on 6 January 2026 at Rezakul Haider Hall. Both sessions were presided over by the Honorable Vice Chancellor of Eastern University, Professor Dr. Farid A. Sobhani. 🔹 Session I (Administrative Development Session): “Strengthening Teamwork for a Positive Workplace Environment” The session was conducted by Ms. Nilufer Ahmed Karim, Free-lance Gender and Management Consultant and Trainer, and Former Faculty Member, Bangladesh Institute of Management (BIM), Ministry of Industries. The discussion highlighted the importance of teamwork, effective communication, and fostering a positive workplace culture. 🔹 Session II (Faculty Development Session): “From Lecturers to Leaders: Faculty as Change Agents” The session was facilitated by Prof. Dr. Syed Saad Andaleeb, Distinguished Professor Emeritus, Pennsylvania State University, USA, and Former Honorable Vice-Chancellor of BRAC University. The session emphasized leadership development and the pivotal role of faculty members as agents of change in higher education. The sessions reflect Eastern University’s continued commitment to professional development, quality assurance, and institutional excellence.

We are pleased to share that EU Day Out 2025 was held on 11 December 2025 at Shaldah Eco Resort, Gazipur organized by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Eastern University. This event was arranged for the trainees who have awarded certificates of Digital Skills Training for students, a premier learning opportunity presented by the EDGE Project of Bangladesh Computer Council and ICT Division through IIT, Jahangirnagar University. About 150 students from B. Sc. in CSE, LL. B and MBA programs were present in the program. The event was graced by Prof. Dr. Farid A. Sobhani, Vice Chancellor of EU as chief guest and all members of Eastern University Working Committee were also present. The event was filled with fun and excitement through activities such as pillow passing, football, hari vanga, swimming and cultural segment. Faculty members, officials, students and supporting staffs enjoyed every moment of the day creating unforgettable memories through laughter, teamwork and joyful engagement. Professor Dr. Md. Anowar Zahid is a distinguished legal scholar, widely recognized for his contributions to comparative law, international business law, and Islamic law. He holds an LLB (Hons) and an LLM from the University of Dhaka. He earned his PhD from the University of Manchester, UK following an LLM from Dalhousie University, Canada. He currently serves remotely as Vice-President (Conferences & Publications) at the Nature Science Research and Innovation Centre (NSRIC), Toronto, and as Legal Advisor to NSRIC Green Supplies Inc., Toronto. Professor Zahid served as Dean of the School of Law at Eastern University from 2018 to 2023. Prior to joining Eastern University, he was an Associate Professor and the Director of the Centre for International Law and Siyar (CILAS) at the National University of Malaysia (UKM). Earlier, he was an Associate Professor of Law at the University of Dhaka.

Students from the Prothom Alo Bondhushava Club of Eastern University proudly took part in a special daylong workshop focused on digital fact-checking and online verification, held on 5 December 2025 at the Prothom Alo Office in Karwan Bazar, Dhaka. A total of eleven club members participated in the intensive training titled “Question Everything You See Online: Training on Quick Fact-Checking & Verification.” The program was jointly organized by Bondhushava and Dismislab, with support from Deshi-Foods. Throughout the workshop, participants engaged in a series of insightful sessions designed to strengthen their ability to navigate the digital world responsibly. In the first session, Miraj Ahmed Chowdhury, Managing Director of Digitally Right, discussed the importance of critical thinking in evaluating online content. The second session was led by Touhidul Islam Rasu, Research Officer at Dismislab, who focused on effective information verification methods and source assessment techniques. In the third session, Yaseer Abrar, also a Research Officer at Dismislab, trained participants on detecting misleading photos and videos through reverse search tools, metadata analysis, and practical verification techniques. A special highlight of the event was the presence of renowned writer and Prothom Alo representative Mr. Anisul Haque, who emphasized Prothom Alo’s commitment to promoting responsible information verification among young people. He encouraged participants to stay vigilant about misinformation and introduced the guest trainers who conducted the sessions. The program further covered techniques for identifying AI-generated visuals and texts, as well as methods for using global digital archives to verify old images, videos, and historical content. These sessions provided valuable hands-on experience with modern fact-checking tools and real-time verification practices. By the end of the day, participants gained a strong foundation in fact-checking methodologies, developed faster techniques to validate social media content, and built greater confidence in detecting misinformation. They also received Certificates of Participation and had the opportunity to network with fellow learners and digital literacy enthusiasts, making the workshop highly enriching and impactful.

ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটি মসজিদে আইন অনুষদের সদ্য গ্রাজুয়েট শিক্ষার্থী আফনান আলম সাকিবের স্মরণে একটি বিশেষ দোয়া মাহফিল অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। তার অকাল বিদায় বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় পরিবারকে গভীরভাবে মর্মাহত করেছে। শিক্ষক, শিক্ষার্থী ও কর্মকর্তা–কর্মচারীরা একত্র হয়ে তার রুহের মাগফিরাত কামনা করেন এবং শোকাহত পরিবারের প্রতি আন্তরিক সমবেদনা জানান। ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির উদ্যোগে এবং আইন অনুষদের ব্যবস্থাপনায় আয়োজিত এই দোয়া মাহফিলে সবার হৃদয়ে ছিল গভীর বেদনা ও স্মৃতিময় আবেগ। কিছুদিন আগেই আইন বিভাগের প্রিয় শিক্ষক ইফতেখার মাহমুদ আমাদের মাঝ থেকে চলে যান। তার পরপরই একই বিভাগের এক তরুণ শিক্ষার্থীর মৃত্যু আইন অনুষদের সবার শোককে আরও গভীরতর করেছে এবং পুরো বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় পরিবারকে ব্যথিত করেছে। বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের মাননীয় উপাচার্য মহোদয় আফনান আলম সাকিবের বিদেহী আত্মার মাগফিরাত কামনা করেন এবং তার শোকাহত পরিবারের প্রতি গভীর সমবেদনা জানান। তিনি বলেন, একজন তরুণ শিক্ষার্থীর এমনভাবে চলে যাওয়া ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির জন্য অপূরণীয় ক্ষতি, এবং আল্লাহ যেন তাকে জান্নাতুল ফেরদৌস দান করেন। আল্লাহ পাক আফনান আলম সাকিবকে জান্নাতুল ফেরদৌস দান করুন এবং তার পরিবারকে এই শোক সহ্য করার শক্তি দিন।

Four students from the Faculty of Law, Eastern University, recently participated in the Legal Skills Boot Camp 2025, a three-day national residential program organized by the Human Rights Observation Center at Subornogram Resort, Narayanganj. The boot camp brought together 80 aspiring legal professionals from 20 universities across Bangladesh, creating a dynamic platform for participants to learn, link, and lead through intensive sessions on human rights, legal research, and legislative drafting. Representing Eastern University were: * Abu Nasir Al Rakib (4th Semester) * Shajida Islam Maria (4th Semester) * Umme Maria Tiffa (3rd Semester) * N.N. Md. Mujtoba Shamuel Hossain (2nd Semester) Eastern University proudly notes that Abu Nasir Al Rakib received the Best Activity Excellence Award for his outstanding performance during the camp. Participants engaged in a variety of interactive workshops and activities. A highlight of the program was a session titled “An Introduction to Legal Research”, conducted by Dr. Muhammad Eqramul Haque, Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Dhaka. The boot camp provided students with valuable hands-on experience, expert guidance, and a strong networking opportunity—further strengthening their commitment to legal education and human rights advocacy.

We are pleased to share that the certificate awarding ceremony of Digital Skills Training for students, a premier learning opportunity presented by the EDGE Project of the Bangladesh Computer Council and ICT Division was held on 11 November 2025 at Rezakul Haider Hall of Eastern University. Certificates were presented to 75 students of LL.B and 25 faculty members & officials of different departments and offices in recognition of their outstanding performance and successful completion of training. The event was graced by Prof. Dr. Farid A. Sobhani, Vice Chancellor of EU as chief guest. In his valuable speech, highlighted how new technologies like AI and robotics are changing job fields and why learning of digital skills is so important now a days. Prof. Md. Shamsul Huda, Treasurer of EU and Dr. Abul Basher Khan, Registrar of EU were present as special guest and the ceremony was presided by Mohammad Mamunur Rashid, Chairperson of Law, Eastern University. The event marked not only the end of a successful program but also a new beginning for participants as they apply their skills in their respective fields.

ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির আন্তঃবিভাগ ফুটবল টুর্নামেন্ট ২০২৫-এর ফাইনাল ম্যাচ আজ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের নিজস্ব ফুটবল মাঠে এক উৎসবমুখর ও প্রাণবন্ত পরিবেশে অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বিতাপূর্ণ এই ম্যাচে ব্যবসায় প্রশাসন বিভাগ (বিবিএ) ১–০ গোলে ফার্মেসি বিভাগকে পরাজিত করে চ্যাম্পিয়ন হওয়ার গৌরব অর্জন করে। অনুষ্ঠানে ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির মাননীয় উপাচার্য অধ্যাপক ড. ফরিদ আহমদ সোবহানী প্রধান অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত থেকে বিজয়ী দলের হাতে চ্যাম্পিয়ন ট্রফি তুলে দেন। এছাড়াও কোষাধ্যক্ষ অধ্যাপক মো. শামসুল হুদা ও রেজিস্ট্রার ড. আবুল বাশার খান বিশেষ অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন। ফাইনাল ম্যাচ ও পুরস্কার বিতরণ অনুষ্ঠানে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের শিক্ষক, প্রশাসনিক কর্মকর্তা এবং বিপুল সংখ্যক শিক্ষার্থী উপস্থিত থেকে মাঠ প্রাঙ্গণ উৎসবমুখর করে তোলে। টুর্নামেন্টটি আয়োজন করে ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটি গেমস অ্যান্ড স্পোর্টস ক্লাব এবং সার্বিক সহযোগিতা প্রদান করেন স্টুডেন্ট এফেয়ার্স এর ডেপুটি ডিরেক্টর কে এম মনিরুল ইসলাম। এই টুর্নামেন্ট শিক্ষার্থীদের খেলাধুলার মনোভাব, দলগত সহযোগিতা এবং অংশগ্রহণমূলক সংস্কৃতি বিকাশে ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির অঙ্গীকারেরই বহিঃপ্রকাশ।

ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটি প্রাঙ্গণে গতকাল ৮ নভেম্বর আইন বিভাগের প্রয়াত সহযোগী অধ্যাপক মো. ইফতেখার মাহমুদ স্মরণে এক শোকসভা এবং দোয়া মাহফিল অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। শিক্ষক, শিক্ষার্থী, প্রশাসনিক কর্মকর্তা, সহকর্মী এবং তাঁর পরিবারের সদস্যদের উপস্থিতিতে এ আয়োজন হয়ে ওঠে এক আবেগঘন স্মরণ অনুষ্ঠান। তাঁর প্রয়াণের পর থেকে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় পরিবারের প্রতিটি স্তরে অনুভূত হচ্ছে গভীর শূন্যতা। তিনি শুধু একজন শিক্ষকই নন — ছিলেন জ্ঞানের আলো ছড়ানো এক আলোকবর্তিকা। ছাত্র–ছাত্রীদের প্রতি তাঁর মানবিক আচরণ, শান্তশিষ্ট স্বভাব এবং অনুপ্রেরণাদায়ী ভূমিকা তাঁকে এনে দিয়েছিল সকলের অকৃত্রিম ভালোবাসা। পাশাপাশি তিনি ছিলেন লেখক, জীবন ও দর্শনের গভীরতা নিয়ে লিখেছেন সাতটি গ্রন্থ — যা পাঠক সমাজে তাঁকে প্রতিষ্ঠিত করেছে একজন মননশীল এবং চিন্তাশীল গবেষক-লেখক হিসেবে। ৩০ অক্টোবর ২০২৫ দিনটি ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটি পরিবারের জন্য এক অপূরণীয় শোকের দিন হিসেবে চিহ্নিত হয়ে থাকবে। অনুষ্ঠানে বক্তব্য প্রদান করেন ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির মাননীয় উপাচার্য প্রফেসর ড. ফরিদ আহমদ সোবহানী। তিনি বলেন, ফুলের সুগন্ধি যেমন ফুলের পাপড়ির ভেতর লুকায়িত, ঠিক তেমনি ইফতেখার মাহমুদ তার কথার মাঝে সাহিত্য কর্মে লুকায়িত। তিনি মৃত্যুবরণ করে দেখিয়ে গিয়েছেন কিভাবে সবার মাঝে বেঁচে থাকতে হয়। উপাচার্য মহোদয় প্রয়াত শিক্ষকের পেশাগত অবদান, মানবিক চরিত্র ও একাডেমিক নিষ্ঠার প্রতি গভীর শ্রদ্ধা নিবেদন করেন। এছাড়া বক্তব্য রাখেন ট্রেজারার প্রফেসর মো. শামসুল হুদা, রেজিস্ট্রার ড. আবুল বাশার খান, আইন অনুষদের ডিন এ.বি.এম. ইমদাদুল হক খান, প্রযুক্তি ও প্রকৌশল অনুষদের ডিন প্রফেসর ড. মো. মাহফুজুর রহমান, ব্যবসায় প্রশাসন অনুষদের ডিন প্রফেসর ড. এম. ছায়েদুর রহমান, আইন বিভাগের চেয়ারম্যান মোহাম্মদ মামুনুর রশিদ, ইংরেজি বিভাগের চেয়ারম্যান মো. রফিউসসান এবং ড. মো. জহুরুল হক, আইন অনুষদের সাবেক ডিন এবং চেয়ার। তাঁরা প্রয়াত শিক্ষকের প্রজ্ঞা, নেতৃত্ব এবং শিক্ষা ক্ষেত্রে অবদান তুলে ধরেন। প্রয়াত ইফতেখার মাহমুদের সাবেক সহকর্মীদের মাঝে স্মৃতিচারণ এবং ব্যক্তিগত অনুভূতি তুলে ধরেন ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির আইন বিভাগের প্রথম চেয়ারপার্সন ইশরাত আজীম আহমাদ, সাবেক চেয়ারম্যান ড. আবদুল আওয়াল খান (বর্তমান অধ্যাপক, আইইউবি), সাবেক সহকারী অধ্যাপক, রেহনুমা বিনতে মামুন (ফ্যাকাল্টি অব ল, আইইউবি), এবং গোলাম সারওয়ার, সহকারী অধ্যাপক, আইন বিভাগ, ঢাবি। তাঁর সহপাঠী ও বন্ধু লে. কর্নেল নাজমুল হক এবং মুনাওয়ার হোসেনও তাদের স্মৃতিচারণে আবেগ প্রকাশ করেন। অনুষ্ঠানের সবচেয়ে হৃদয়স্পর্শী মুহূর্ত ছিল তাঁর একমাত্র কন্যা মনীষা তাইফের বক্তব্য। বাবার স্মৃতি, তাঁর ভাবনার শক্তি এবং শব্দের সৌন্দর্য—মনীষার কণ্ঠে যেন জীবন্ত হয়ে ওঠে। তাঁর স্ত্রী তানিয়া নাসরীনও পরিবারের পক্ষ থেকে শ্রদ্ধাভরে স্মৃতিচারণ করেন। ইফতেখার মাহমুদ ছিলেন ধীমান, নীরব, মূল্যবোধে দৃঢ় এবং আলোকিত এক মানুষ। রাজশাহী ক্যাডেট কলেজ থেকে উচ্চমাধ্যমিক শেষ করে রাজশাহী বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের আইন বিভাগ থেকে তাঁর শিক্ষাজীবনের পথচলা শুরু। পেশা হিসেবে শিক্ষকতাকে বেছে নিয়ে তিনি আলো ছড়িয়ে গেছেন অসংখ্য শিক্ষার্থীর জীবনে। ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির আইন অনুষদে তিনি ছিলেন জ্ঞান, অনুপ্রেরণা ও মানবিকতার এক মূর্ত প্রতীক। ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটি পরিবার এই প্রিয় শিক্ষককে গভীর শ্রদ্ধা ও ভালোবাসায় স্মরণ করছে। তিনি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় পরিবারের স্মৃতিতে অম্লান হয়ে থাকবেন।

The Freshers’ Orientation for Fall 2025 was held on 26 October 2025 at Eastern University campus in Ashulia, Dhaka. The program warmly welcomed the newly admitted students to the Eastern University. The event was presided over by Professor Dr. Farid A. Sobhani, Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor of Eastern University. Professor Dr. A. S. M. Amanullah, Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor of National University, attended the event as the Chief Guest. Professor Dr. ABM Shahidul Islam and Mr. Mohammad Ali Azzam, Members of the Board of Trustees, Eastern University, were present as Special Guests. In their speeches, the guests encouraged students to become attentive, ethical, and professionally skilled citizens. They also highlighted the importance of higher education in building leadership and contributing to national development. Among others, Professor Md. Shamsul Huda, Treasurer of Eastern University; Dr. Abul Basher Khan, Registrar; Professor Dr. Md. Mahfuzur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology; Professor Dr. M. Sayedur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration; Mr. ABM Imdadul Haque Khan, Dean of the Faculty of Law and Mr. Md. Rofiusssan, Chairperson of the Department of English, also addressed the program. The orientation program introduced the freshers to the university’s academic rules, regulations, club activities, and campus life. The event concluded with a colorful cultural performance presented by the Cultural Club of the university.
