Eastern University and United Healthcare have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in healthcare services for students, faculty members, and staff. The MoU signing ceremony was held yesterday at the United Medical College Hospital. The MoU was signed on behalf of Eastern University by Honorable Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Farid A. Sobhani, and on behalf of United Healthcare by Mohammad Faizur Rahman, Chief Executive Officer (Healthcare Division), United Group. Representing Eastern University at the ceremony were K. M. Monirul Islam, Deputy Director, Office of Student Affairs and Placement, and Md. Mohiuddin Majumder, Assistant Director, Public Relations. From United Healthcare, Tareq Sami Rahman, Head of Customer Relations Department & Corporate Marketing, was also present. Under the agreement, students, faculty members, and officers and staff of Eastern University will receive exclusive discounts on medical treatment, diagnostic tests, and cabin services at United Healthcare. Both institutions expressed optimism that this collaboration will enhance access to quality healthcare for the university community and pave the way for expanded cooperation in the future.

বুধবার ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটির রেজাকুল হায়দার হলে ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটি বোর্ড অব ট্রাস্টিজ ও ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটি ফাউন্ডেশনের বর্তমান চেয়ারম্যান ব্যারিস্টার সাফায়েত মোহাম্মদ রাজু–কে ফুলেল সংবর্ধনার মাধ্যমে উষ্ণ অভ্যর্থনা জানানো হয়। উপাচার্য প্রফেসর ড. ফরিদ আহমদ সোবহানীর সভাপতিত্বে আয়োজিত এ অনুষ্ঠানে বিভিন্ন অনুষদের ডিন, বিভাগীয় প্রধান, শিক্ষক, কর্মকর্তা ও কর্মচারীবৃন্দ উপস্থিত ছিলেন। অনুষ্ঠানে চেয়ারম্যান ব্যারিস্টার সাফায়েত মোহাম্মদ রাজু বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের চলমান ও ভবিষ্যৎ উন্নয়নমূলক কর্মকাণ্ড নিয়ে বক্তব্য দেন। তিনি নৈতিক শিক্ষা, গবেষণা এবং শিক্ষা কার্যক্রমকে আরও শক্তিশালী করার ওপর গুরুত্বারোপ করেন। শিক্ষার্থীদের প্রতি আরও মনোযোগী হওয়া এবং তাদের সর্বোচ্চ অগ্রাধিকার দেওয়ার আহ্বান জানিয়ে তিনি বলেন, শিক্ষার্থীরাই আগামী দিনের নেতৃত্ব দেবে এবং বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়কে সামনে এগিয়ে নিয়ে যাবে। এ সময় তিনি শিক্ষার্থীদের প্রযুক্তিগত দক্ষতা বৃদ্ধিতে গৃহীত উদ্যোগের কথা উল্লেখ করে জানান, ইতোমধ্যে ১,২০০-এর অধিক শিক্ষার্থীকে মাইক্রোসফট কোপাইলট এআই-এর প্রো ভার্সনের বিনামূল্যের এক্সেস প্রদান করা হয়েছে। ইস্টার্ন ইউনিভার্সিটি কর্তৃপক্ষ নতুন চেয়ারম্যানকে সাদরে গ্রহণের মধ্য দিয়ে নতুন বছরের কার্যক্রমের সূচনা করে এবং তাঁর নেতৃত্বে বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের অগ্রযাত্রা আরও বেগবান হবে বলে আশাবাদ ব্যক্ত করা হয়।

The IEEE Eastern University Student Branch proudly announces a landmark achievement at INDCon 2025, where Eastern University emerged as Champion in the Idea Presentation Competition, outperforming Dhaka University (Runner-up). The winning project titled “IoT-Enabled Maternal & Neonatal Health Monitoring in Remote Areas” was presented by Farhan Ahmed Rahee (EEE), Shariful Islam (EEE), and Turjo Saha (CSE). In addition, Eastern University also secured 3rd Place in the Project Showcasing Competition with the project “Multipurpose Drone,” developed by Md. Shamiul Islam (EEE), Jahangir Alom (EEE), and Labib Sobhani (EEE). With participation from nearly 90 students representing 27 IEEE Student Branches across the country, INDCon 2025 showcased outstanding innovation, creativity, and technical excellence. Honorable Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Farid A. Sobhani, personally congratulated the winning teams, expressing his pride in the students’ achievements and appreciating their dedication to research, innovation, and real-world problem solving. His presence and encouragement served as a great inspiration for the students. These achievements also reflect the strong mentorship and leadership of Md. Eastern University, through its Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), successfully organized two capacity-building sessions on 6 January 2026 at Rezakul Haider Hall. Both sessions were presided over by the Honorable Vice Chancellor of Eastern University, Professor Dr. Farid A. Sobhani. 🔹 Session I (Administrative Development Session): “Strengthening Teamwork for a Positive Workplace Environment” The session was conducted by Ms. Nilufer Ahmed Karim, Free-lance Gender and Management Consultant and Trainer, and Former Faculty Member, Bangladesh Institute of Management (BIM), Ministry of Industries. The discussion highlighted the importance of teamwork, effective communication, and fostering a positive workplace culture. 🔹 Session II (Faculty Development Session): “From Lecturers to Leaders: Faculty as Change Agents” The session was facilitated by Prof. Dr. Syed Saad Andaleeb, Distinguished Professor Emeritus, Pennsylvania State University, USA, and Former Honorable Vice-Chancellor of BRAC University. The session emphasized leadership development and the pivotal role of faculty members as agents of change in higher education. We are pleased to share that EU Day Out 2025 was held on 11 December 2025 at Shaldah Eco Resort, Gazipur organized by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Eastern University. This event was arranged for the trainees who have awarded certificates of Digital Skills Training for students, a premier learning opportunity presented by the EDGE Project of Bangladesh Computer Council and ICT Division through IIT, Jahangirnagar University. About 150 students from B. Sc. in CSE, LL. B and MBA programs were present in the program. The event was graced by Prof. Dr. Farid A. Sobhani, Vice Chancellor of EU as chief guest and all members of Eastern University Working Committee were also present. The event was filled with fun and excitement through activities such as pillow passing, football, hari vanga, swimming and cultural segment. Faculty members, officials, students and supporting staffs enjoyed every moment of the day creating unforgettable memories through laughter, teamwork and joyful engagement. Students from the Prothom Alo Bondhushava Club of Eastern University proudly took part in a special daylong workshop focused on digital fact-checking and online verification, held on 5 December 2025 at the Prothom Alo Office in Karwan Bazar, Dhaka. A total of eleven club members participated in the intensive training titled “Question Everything You See Online: Training on Quick Fact-Checking & Verification.” The program was jointly organized by Bondhushava and Dismislab, with support from Deshi-Foods. Throughout the workshop, participants engaged in a series of insightful sessions designed to strengthen their ability to navigate the digital world responsibly. In the first session, Miraj Ahmed Chowdhury, Managing Director of Digitally Right, discussed the importance of critical thinking in evaluating online content. The second session was led by Touhidul Islam Rasu, Research Officer at Dismislab, who focused on effective information verification methods and source assessment techniques. In the third session, Yaseer Abrar, also a Research Officer at Dismislab, trained participants on detecting misleading photos and videos through reverse search tools, metadata analysis, and practical verification techniques. A special highlight of the event was the presence of renowned writer and Prothom Alo representative Mr. Anisul Haque, who emphasized Prothom Alo’s commitment to promoting responsible information verification among young people. He encouraged participants to stay vigilant about misinformation and introduced the guest trainers who conducted the sessions. The program further covered techniques for identifying AI-generated visuals and texts, as well as methods for using global digital archives to verify old images, videos, and historical content. These sessions provided valuable hands-on experience with modern fact-checking tools and real-time verification practices. By the end of the day, participants gained a strong foundation in fact-checking methodologies, developed faster techniques to validate social media content, and built greater confidence in detecting misinformation. They also received Certificates of Participation and had the opportunity to network with fellow learners and digital literacy enthusiasts, making the workshop highly enriching and impactful.

Eastern University Congratulates Its Students as INDCon 2025 Winners

INDCon 2025 has officially announced the results of its competitions, and Eastern University is delighted to celebrate the outstanding achievements of its students. In the Presentation Competition, Eastern University secured 1st Place with the project “IoT-Enabled Maternal & Neonatal Health Monitoring in Remote Areas,” presented by Farhan Ahmed Rahee (EEE), Shariful Islam (EEE), and Turjo Saha (CSE). Dhaka University and JUST achieved 2nd and 3rd places, respectively. In the Project Showcasing Competition, Eastern University earned 3rd Place with the project “Multipurpose Drone,” developed by Md Shamiul Islam, Jahangir Alom, and Labib Sobhani—all from the Department of EEE. BUBT and Daffodil International University secured the top two positions. In the Idea Pitching Competition, the winners were Daffodil International University, UAP, and Varendra University. This year’s INDCon saw strong nationwide participation, with approximately 90 students from around 27 IEEE Student Branches of different universities joining both onsite and online. Eastern University warmly congratulates its winning teams for their creativity and dedication, and appreciates all participants whose efforts enriched INDCon 2025. The university also recognizes the leadership and support of Md. IEEE BECITHCON 2025 Successfully Held at Eastern University

On 29 November 2025, Eastern University successfully hosted the 4th IEEE Conference on Biomedical Engineering, Computer and Information Technology for Health (BECITHCON) 2025 at its permanent campus. All activities of the first day were conducted according to schedule, and the event remained vibrant and enriching throughout the day with the active participation of researchers, academics, and students from various universities. The inauguration ceremony was graced by Professor Dr. Farid A. Sobhani, Honorable Vice Chancellor of Eastern University, as the Chief Guest. Distinguished Professor Dr. M. M. Shahidul Hasan from the School of Engineering and Technology, Eastern University, addressed the audience as the Guest of Honour. Eminent academicians—Professor Dr. Celia Shahnaz, Professor Dr. Shaikh A. Fattah, and Professor Dr. Muhammad Imamul Hasan Bhuiyan—all from the EEE Department of BUET and holding significant responsibilities within IEEE—were present as Special Guests. The session was chaired by Professor Dr. Md. Mahfuzur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at Eastern University and Chair of the Conference Organizing Committee. The speakers highlighted the future directions of health technology and inspired young researchers toward innovation. Three international keynote speakers delivered their talks virtually at this year’s conference. * Dr. Md. Touhidul Islam, Assistant Professor, Department of Radiation Oncology (Medical Physics), Stanford University, USA, presented the keynote “Next-Generation AI for High-Dimensional Biomedical Data: Towards Interpretable and Data-Efficient Discovery”, shedding light on innovative and interpretable AI techniques for analyzing complex healthcare data. * Dr. Roshan Joy Martis, Associate Professor, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Manipal Institute of Technology, Bengaluru, India, delivered a talk titled “Intelligent Processing of Biomedical Signals: A Technological Perspective”, discussing current applications, challenges, and future opportunities in biomedical signal processing. * Dr. Ashir Ahmed, Associate Professor, Faculty of Information Science and Electrical Engineering, Kyushu University, Japan, spoke on “Digital Transformation for Healthcare Productivity: Lessons from PHC, AI, and Global South Innovation”, sharing real-world insights into digital health services, portable health clinics, and AI-driven triage systems aimed at enhancing healthcare productivity. Throughout the day, parallel sessions featured presentations on biomedical engineering, smart health systems, artificial intelligence in healthcare, medical devices, and emerging technology-driven research. The active involvement of researchers, faculty members, professionals, and students contributed to a highly positive and knowledge-rich environment. Following the inauguration ceremony, Eastern University hosted the co-located activities of the International Industrial Activities Congress (INDCon) 2025. Organized jointly by the IEEE Eastern University Student Branch and the IEEE Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) Student Branch, the program included project showcasing, quiz competitions, idea competitions, and several educational and competitive activities. These activities offered students opportunities to learn, innovate, and participate actively. Approximately 90 students from around 25 universities participated both onsite and online. The first day of the conference concluded with constructive discussions, research presentations, and collaborative exchanges. The event once again reaffirmed Eastern University’s commitment to research advancement, academic excellence, and fostering international collaboration. The second day of IEEE BECITHCON 2025 will be held virtually on 30 November 2025, with additional local and international researchers and experts joining the sessions.
